Nathan Fairchild scored both goals Saturday night to lead the Roanoke RiverDawgs to a 2-1 victory over the Lexington (Ky.) Bluegrass Bandits in a U.S. Interregional Soccer League game at Cave Spring Junior High School.
Fairchild scored the winner with 15 minutes left after taking a pass from Ian Spooner and shooting low past Lexington goalkeeper Chris West.
Fairchild, a James Madison University standout, scored the first goal two minutes into the second half off a pass from Patrick McSorley to give the RiverDawgs (3-2) the lead. Lexington (6-2) retaliated when Tyrone Marshall beat Roanoke keeper Aaron Ewert 13 minutes into the half.
``This is one of the top teams in the Central Premier League,'' said Ed McMichael, Roanoke's coach. ``If we can continue to play like this we're going to be an incredible team.'' - Staff report
