The long, fitted sleeves and the bodice of the gown were adorned with iridescent sequins and pearls. Sequins and pearl beaded lace on the full skirt flowed into a semi-cathedral train. Her cathedral length veil fell from a pearl tiara. The bride carried a cascading bouquet of white roses and stephanotis. The groom wore a black tuxedo with tails accented with a white bow-tie and white vest.
The bride is the daughter of Ron and Pat Yates of Christiansburg. She is the granddaughter of Richard and Mary Bragg, and Robert and Clairemont Yates, both of Christiansburg. The bride graduated from Christiansburg High School and Virginia Tech. She is a staff accountant with Robinson, Farmer, Cox Associates.
The groom is the son of Bob and Carol Cornish of Christiansburg, and Rick and Trish Clifton of Austin, Texas. He is the grandson of Clement and Sylvia Leone of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, and Anita Cornish of Warren, Connecticut. The groom is a graduate of Christiansburg High School and is employed with Coca-Cola Consolidated Bottlin g Company.
After a wedding trip to Cancun, Mexico, the couple will reside in Christiansburg, Virginia.

Cathy Lynne Crawford and James Philip Crawford were married on June 15, 1996 at Bent Mountain Lodge in Copper Hill, Virginia. The groom's father, the Rev. Robert E. Crawford officiated. A reception at the Lodge followed the ceremony.
Eileen McNally of Somerville, New Jersey was the matron of honor. Sharon Kollas and Angela Wilson, both of Roanoke, were bridesmaids. Stefan Bechtel of Charlottesville served as best man. Kenneth Crawford of Roanoke, brother of the bride, was usher.
Music for the ceremony was provided by close friends of the couple, David Lipps, Erica Lipps, Donald Drummer, Susanna Robinson, and Owen Schultz, and the groom's niece, Susan Crawford.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ronald O. Crawford and a graduate of The College of William and Mary. She owns a small landscaping company, Kaleidoscapes. The groom is the son of Rev. Robert E. Crawford and the late Mrs. Helen B. Crawford, and stepson of Mrs. Annah Lee Crawford. He is a musician, holds a Master's of Science in Geography from Virginia Tech and is self-employed.
The couple will return to R oanoke in the fall at the end of a cross-country bicycle/camping trip beginning in Seattle in June.

Challen Michelle Cates and John Ferriter were married Saturday, May 25, 1996, at Walnut Grove Farm in Shawsville, Virginia, the home of the bride's grandparents, Evelyn and Elbert Waldron. The ceremony was conducted by Dr. Ayn Wesley Cates, the sister of the bride. The bride arrived at the ceremony in a carriage pulled by Taba, a magnificent black Fresian horse with white roses braided into his mane and tail. The carriage was driven by the father of the bride, William Wesley Cates.
Maid of honor was Karen Waldron, the bride's aunt. Bridesmaids were, the bride's sister, Trevor Cates and Cameron Smith Billings, Judy Pryor and Pennie Leigh Orcutt, friends of the bride. Gregory Nacco was best man. Groomsmen were Michael Ferriter, brother of the groom, and Gregory Pryor, Philip Gurin and Anthony Shepherd, friends of the groom. The flower girl was Kathryn Ayn Hamilton, the bride's n iece and the ringbearer was Mary Whitney Ferriter, the groom's niece.
The bride wore her mother's, Gwendolyn Foster Cates', 1960 floor length wedding gown with beaded lace bodice and cathedral train. The bride's bouquet was a cascade of 174 roses in shades of white, cream and pale peach.
After a wedding trip to the French Polynesian island of Bora Bora, the bride and groom will reside in West Hollywood, California. Challen Cates is a television actress and John Ferriter is with the William Morris Agency.
Gaines-Ratcliff
Tara Elizabeth Ratcliff and John Redmon Gaines were married May 18, 1996 in Sherry Memorial Church in Pembroke, Va., by the Reverend James Belcher.
The bride is the daughter of Bonita Brigman and Joseph McVoy of Blacksburg and of Phillip and Adele Ratcliff of Woodbridge, England. Tara is the granddaughter of Roy and Lucile Brigman of Martinsville, and the late Hazeltine Brigman; and the late Charles and Peggy Ratcliff of Richmond. The bridegroom is the son of James and Elaine Gaines of Blacksburg. His grandparents are Adrien Vermeersch of Blacksburg and the late Mary Vermeersch; and the late William and Thelma Gaines of Arkansas.
The bride, escorted by her father, wore an ivory silk shantung gown. The scoop off-the-shoulder neckline was adorned with handrolled roses. The fitted bodice featured long tapered sleeves and a dropped waistline with a flowing rose ribbon at the back. She carried a cascading bouquet of red roses and variegated ivy.
Erin Ratcliff, twin sister of the bride, was the maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Carin Gaines, sister of the groom, Linda Albert, friend of the bride, both of Blacksburg; and Kelly Ratcliff, cousin of the bride, from Concord, N.C. The bridesmaids wore fitted burgundy floor length dresses with fluted hems. The dresses featured a scoop front neckline and V-back accented with a satin bow and long streamers. Each carried a bouquet of white roses mixed with gladiolas. Zoya and Cozette Zimmerman, from Wilmington, N.C., were twin flower girls. The ring bearers were Logan and Kaleb Gallimore of Blacksburg.
A program of wedding music was provided by soloist David Duffy, of Collinsville, cousin of the bride; and pianist Catherine Hollingsworth, of Blacksburg. Vocalist was Merle Duffy, aunt of the bride, also of Collinsville.
John Polson, friend of the groom, was best man. The groomsmen were Chris Keister, Junior Gallimore, and Joey Bryant, all friends of the groom, from Blacksburg.
The wedding director was Teresa Baker, o f Floyd, friend of the bride. Family friends, Earle Irwin, of Blacksburg, Nancy Gilliam, of Meadows of Dan, Debbie Cole, of Richmond, and Carol Flaherty, of Raleigh, N.C., assisted the director. The photographer was Carl Whitt of Radford.
A dinner reception was held at Mountain Lake Hotel following the ceremony.
The bride is a May graduate in accounting from the Pamplin College of Business at Va. Tech. The groom is employed by Willow Springs Tree Farm and was recently accepted to the School of Engineering at Va. Tech.
Following their honeymoon in St. Lucia, the couple is living in their new home in Blacksburg. They thank their family and friends for joining in the celebration of their marriage.

Ringbearer was Michael Craig Fridge of Roanoke. Miss Elisa Adele Winstead, of Northern Virginia, was guestbook attendant. Miss Brenda Lee Hubbard, of Baltimore, Md., did the reading. Mrs. Borden Hanes, Jr., of Winston-Salem, N.C., served as director of the wedding.
Miss Carter's gown was made of white Irish linen with a sweetheart neckline, short sleeves on the shoulder, with cascades of Venice lace down the bodice onto the full skirt, extending past the hemline onto a cathedral length train. Her headpiece, which was worn 33 years ago on the same day by her mother-in-law, was made of Austrian crystal, attached to it was a cathedral length veil. The bride's bouquet was made from 6 dozen dried roses, in neutral colors, in the shape of a heart.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Eugene Carter of Fort Wayne, Ind., formerly of Salem. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Reid Ashby Garst of Salem.
After a wedding trip to Canada, the newlyweds will reside in Roanoke, Va.

The marriage of Miss Molly Shepherd Goodwin, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Hunter Goodwin, Jr. of Richmond, to Mr. Robert Daniel Hardie, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Randall Hardie of Roanoke, took place Saturday, June 15 at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Richmond. The ceremony was followed by a reception at Moody Hall, Virginia Military Institute. After a wedding trip to Hilton Head Island, the couple will live in Charleston, South Carolina.

Carissa Elena South and David Christopher Lloyd were married on May 18, 1996 at the home of the groom's parents. Rev. Carolyn Bratton was the officiating clergy.

The bride wore a floor length, Victorian style gown, circa 1910, featuring antique tape lace. She carried a bouquet of baby's breath.
The bride is the daughter of Jean Powell and Gary Powell of Roanoke. She is a graduate of James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Va. and is employed by the Art Museum of Western Virginia. The groom is the son of Pat Johnson and Kenneth Lloyd of Roanoke. He is a graduate of Roanoke College in Salem.
The couple honeymooned in London, England.
Maynard-Chapman
Karen Sue Chapman and Roger Lee Maynard were united in marriage on the 18th of May at their home on Smith Mountain Lake, with Mr. Roy Whitescarver officiating.
The bride was given in marriage by her parents and escorted by her nephew, John Kevin Chapman, her brothers Keith, Kevin and Kent Chapman and her father. She wore a gown of ivory crepe with beaded lace bodice, accented by a portrait neckline and cascading back; also sewn into the gown were buttons from her paternal grandmother's wedding suit. Her garter was fashioned from fabric of her paternal grandfather's wedding shirt and lace crocheted by her paternal grandmother. She carried a bouquet of ivory roses, lily of the valley and lavender, with the stems wrapped in a handkerchief from her maternal grandmother. The boutonnieres worn by the groom, be st man, and the bride's father had fishing lures incorporated into them. The groom is an avid fisherman.
The bridal attendants were Betsy Hixson of Atlanta, Ga., and Joanie Giles of Winfield, W.Va. Ken Hixson of Atlanta, Ga. was best man, and John Giles of Winfield, W.Va. served as groomsman. Kendra Chapman, niece of the bride, was flowergirl, and the ringbearer was Joseph Chapman, nephew of the bride.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jacky L. Chapman of Shady Spring, W.Va. She is employed at Frame and Art. The groom is the son of Mrs. Alvis K. Maynard and the late Mr. Alvis K. Maynard of Princeton, W.VA. He is employed at Ewald-Clark.
McGhee-Pinion
Deana Brooke Pinion married Chad Stewart McGhee on Saturday, June 15, at First Baptist Church in Roanoke. Rev. Chuck Ward officiated the ceremony, which was followed by a reception in the church atrium.
Whitney Pinion, sister of the bride, was maid of honor. Bridesmaids included Jodi Freday, Angie Hodges and Hayley Stanley of Roanoke, and Melissa Curtin of Virginia Beach, all friends of the bride.
Best man was Glenn McGhee, father of the groom. Corey McGhee and Matthew Swecker, brothers of the groom, and Jeff Crouse, Chris Woolfolk and Kasey Richardson, were ushers.
Carrie Gladden, friend of the bride's family, was flower girl, and Timothy Whiddon, also a friend of the bride's family, was ringbearer. Cathy and Lindsey Adkins attended the guestbook.
Deana is the daughter of Larry and Susan Richardson of Troutville and Forrest Pinion of Christiansburg, and the granddaughter of Reba Pinion and the late Hoyle Pinion, and the late Minor and Nell Kasey, all of Roanoke.
Chad is the son of Glenn and Joey McGhee of Salem and Jim and Rebecca Swecker of Roanoke. He is the grandson of Ivan and Vivian McGhee of Rocky Mount, and Jack and Jean Smith of Vinton.
Deana graduated from William Fleming High School, and Chad is a graduate of Northside High School. Both graduated from Longwood College in May. Chad is employed by Fredrick H. Norville, CPA.

Pamela Kay Stoneking Beckett and John William Mello, Jr. were united in marriage on March 8, 1996 at 7:30 p.m. at the residence of Dorothy Barnett.
The bride wore a blue and white silk flowered dress and carried yellow long stemmed roses. The groom wore a navy jacket with yellow boutonniere.
Matron of honor was Ann Clapp, sister of the groom. Best man was Gary M. Smith. Flowergirl was Kristen Redwine, granddaughter of Dorothy Barnett. Ringbearer was Adam Clapp, nephew of the groom.
Parents of the bride, Mr. and Mrs. Denzil R. Stoneking of Parkersburg, West Virginia were present. Mother of the groom, Alice Walker of Salem, Va. attended also.
John W. Mello, Sr., and wife, Millie, of Mass., were unable to attend due to severe weather.
The reception was held by Dorothy Barnett and Pat Harris. All decorating and food preparation was done by them.
Mr. and Mrs. John W. Mello, Jr. are both employed by Salem Wal-Mart and will reside in Salem.

Carolyn Virginia Smith and Christopher Kingsley Nolan were married June 15, 1996, at St. John's Episcopal Church. The Reverend Tom O'Dell officiated. The reception was held at ``Cockspur'', the home of Commander and Mrs. William Bagbey.
The maid of honor was Karen Bumgarner of Roanoke, Virginia. Bridesmaids were Hilary Nolan, sister of the groom, Maria Westfried, Kelly Martone, Kathy Leake, Sinclair Ellett and Majorie Winters, friends of the bride. The junior bridesmaid was Lauren Smith, niece of the bride, and the flower girl was Laura Bagbey, granddaughter of Commander Bagbey.
The best man was Brian Hartstein of Tempe, Arizona. Groomsmen w ere Alexander Palesty, Christopher Lineberger, David Knickerbocker, David Gaston, Kevin Cardinal, friends of the groom, and Scott Carling, friend of the bride. The ring bearer was Daniel Bagbey, grandson of Commander Bagbey.
The bride is the daughter of Mrs. Carolyn Bagbey of Roanoke, Virginia. The bride attended North Cross School, K-12 and is a graduate of Washington and Lee University. She will begin attending the University of Southern California in August to receive her MBA degree. The bride is employed by Merchandising Solutions in El Segundo, California.
The bridegroom is the son of Mr. Terence Nolan of New York, New York, and Mrs. Elizabeth Taggart of New Canaan, Connecticut. The bridegroom is a graduate of Kent School and Lafayette College. He is currently attending the Joan Barron, D. W. Brown Method Acting Studio. He is employed by Max Ehancement in Manhattan Beach, California.
