PASTORS PLAY MUSICAL CHURCHES

A new ministry to Hispanic residents of the Roanoke Valley is planned with the assignment of the Rev. Denise Huffman as co-pastor of Trinity United Methodist Church in Old Southwest. Huffman, a linguist with a Latin American background, has been the part-time pastor of Lawrence Memorial United Methodist Church on Bent Mountain for seven years.

She will work with the Rev. David Tanner, the bivocational pastor of the inner-city parish, according to the Rev. Richard Worden, superintendent of the Roanoke District. Huffman is among several area Methodist pastors affected by the annual rotation of clergy.

Former Roanoker the Rev. Marianne Bird, who has been pastor at Hurt south of Lynchburg, is going to the part-time ministry at Crockett Springs near Shawsville. Its present pastor, the Rev. C. Russell Davis, will direct a conference center in Oklahoma.

Replacing Huffman on Bent Mountain will be the Rev. William A. Jester, who is coming from Luray.

The Rev. John Price Jr. is coming out of retirement to serve Asbury Church in his hometown of Christiansburg. The Rev. Lorenzo Hill has been moved to the John Mann Church near Winchester.

The Belview Church near Radford will receive the Rev. C. Mitchell Emswiler, who is coming from Bethel-Cokesbury near Winchester. The Rev. Larry F. Mann, who has been at Belview five years, goes to the South Franklin Charge based in Rocky Mount.

After three years, the Rev. Louis F. Timmons is leaving Highland Park Church in Roanoke for the Prices Fork Church near Blacksburg. The Rev. David P. Fisher, who has had a Navy and business career, will replace him and is moving from Norfolk.

With Timmons coming to Prices Fork, the pastor who has been there for three years, the Rev. Frederick Clemens, goes to Axton.

A second retirement is in store for the Rev. Richard L. "Mac" McNutt, who has been the part-time pastor of Melrose Avenue Church for 10 years. He will remain in Roanoke and be succeeded by another retired pastor, the Rev. Ed Taylor, who most recently has been at St. James Church at Ferrum.

Two New River Valley congregations, Mount Tabor in Montgomery and Mount Elbert in Floyd, will be served by the Rev. Raymond Kelley, another retired pastor who was at Pembroke for many years. The Rev. Philip Sims, the former New River Parish minister, is retiring to Floyd.

A seven-year pastorate will end for the Rev. D. Michael Meloy at Windsor Hills Church. Several weeks ago he was named superintendent of the Peninsula District, based in Newport News. Taking Meloy's place at the suburban parish will be the Rev. Donald E. Carlton, who is coming from Heritage Church of Lynchburg after five years.

The Rev. Keith E. Ritchie, who has served White Memorial Church at Shawsville for six years, will move to Richmond to become associate at Reveille Church. His replacement will be the Rev. Stephen P. King, now at the South Covington Church.

The appointments are effective June 30.
