STAR CITY Auto Parts 300 features two accidents.
Orvill Reedy held off Franky Pennington, a last-minute substitute for Tim McGuire, to win the Star City Auto Parts 300 on Saturday night at Franklin County Speedway.
Pennington, a former FCS regular, had not raced since 1995. He stepped in for McGuire, who returned to Roanoke when his wife went into labor.
``I love being back here,'' Pennington said. ``It felt good to be back in a race car.''
Pennington and third-place finisher Bobby Radford took advantage of two accidents to move into contention. Almost half of the 15-car Late Model Stock field collided in turn 2 to bring out the first caution flag of the race. The pileup knocked Lonnie Foley and Larry Hodges out of contention and sent them to the pits for the night.
Radford, who had to make repairs after a practice heat, came out of the incident with only a flat tire.
On lap 24, the second caution flag came out after Kenny Wagner pushed Jimmy Mullins in an aggressive bid for second place that produced a spin by Wagner and sent both cars to the rear of the field. Wagner then became involved in a shouting match with a track official and was disqualified for unsportsmanlike conduct.
Dudley Lawhorn finished fourth, Billy Martin was fifth and Mullins worked his way back through the field to place sixth.
Fred Goff won a Limited Sportsman race that featured some fireworks.
Tempers flared between Mike Elkins and Leon Dalton after Elkins shoved Dalton into the infield to take the lead. Dalton was able to continue, but never challenged for the lead again and finished fourth.
Mike Elkins, who shoved Leon Dalton into the infield to take the lead, got some rough treatment from Mike Dudley while leading on the final lap. Dudley pushed Elkins into the inside wall on the front straightaway. Elkins was unable to finish, and Goff went by Dudley to take the checkered flag.
In other races:
* Jay Peery ran away from the Pure Stock field, with Neil Murray second and Tom Dooley third.
* Chris Martin slipped past Gary Joyce on the last lap to win the Mini Stock race. Richard Doss was third.
* Steve Cannaday took the checkered flag in the Rookie race, with Bob Cregger second and Kenny Sowers third.
* Sonny Arrington was the Classic Modifieds winner. Steve Lamm placed second and Toby Nolen was third.
* Patrick Evans took home the $1,000 winner's check in the Any Car race.
