RIPKEN SETS WORLD RECORD PLAYS IN 2,216 AND COUNTING

In any country and in any language, there are now only two words synonymous with durability in baseball: Cal Ripken.

Ripken played in his 2,216th consecutive game Friday night, breaking the sport's world record held by Japan's Sachio Kinugasa. Ripken formally laid claim to the title as the most durable player in the sport's history after the fifth inning of the Baltimore Orioles' 6-1 victory over the Kansas City Royals.
