A fight between two Roanoke neighbors that could have ended in bloodshed resulted only in bad blood when one of the men fired shots at the other and missed, police said.
David Lee Bondurant of 4517 Northwood Drive N.W. knocked on and opened the door at the home of his neighbor, Thomas Edward Via, about 7:30 p.m. Sunday.
Via ordered Bondurant out, and the two men fought outside Via's home, police said. Via's wife managed to get between the two men, but police said she and her husband fled when Bondurant pulled a revolver.
Bondurant fired and hit Via's parked pickup truck as Via ran across the street in front of an approaching vehicle driven by neighbor James Nichols, police said.
Bondurant fired again, police said, and hit Nichols' front porch post. The bullet continued through Nichols' front door and came to rest inside a closet.
Meanwhile, Via hid behind Nichols' house.
Bondurant returned to Via's home and put the gun down, police said. He offered no resistance when arrested. Bondurant was arraigned Monday morning on a charge of attempted malicious wounding and a firearm charge. Bail was set at $5,000.
