Parents of Bethel Elementary School students and other interested county residents are invited to attend a Thursday meeting of a group that wants to keep the school from being closed after the 1996-97 school year.
"Save Our Bethel School" will meet at 7 p.m. at the Radford Auto Auction on Tyler Road near Interstate 81.
Julia Smith said copies of petitions against the school's closure will be available at the organizational meeting.
A new elementary school in Riner is being designed to accommodate students from the existing Bethel and Riner schools.
"We want to keep Bethel open for our kids," Smith said, because of concerns about lengthy bus rides and participation in programs before and after school. Call Smith at 639-2262.
