The Roanoke RiverDawgs have made a number of roster changes recently.
On Friday, the United Systems of Independent Soccer Leagues team signed goalkeeper Drew Burwash, who is on loan to the RiverDawgs from the Canton (Ohio) Invaders of the National Professional Soccer League. The NPSL is the top indoor league in the United States.
In other team news, Jeff Wilson, a defender from the University of South Carolina, began practicing after being sidelined for two weeks with a knee injury.
Meanwhile, midfielder Patrick McSorley has realized his goal of making the California-based Pro Beach Soccer league. McSorley, a 1995 third-team All-American at James Madison University, will be with the RiverDawgs on a week-to-week basis.
In other sports in the region:
* Ferrum College golfer Ricky (R.J.) Weaver has been named to the 1995-96 NCAA Division III South All-Region team. Weaver closed the season with a 77.5 stroke average in 21 rounds.
A 1992 graduate of Tunstall High School, Weaver also earned second-team All-Dixie Conference honors. Berk Jolly of Hampden-Sydney College also made the South Region team.
