IN SCHOOL

PATRICK HENRY HIGH SCHOOL announced the following team winners from the state Vocational Industrial Clubs of America Skill Olympics and Leadership contest held in Virginia Beach: Christine Owsley, Erica Robertson, Kellie Tidrow and Becky Zook won first place in the Health Occupation Quiz Bowl; Amy Keene, Laura Paige, Aaron Galbreath and Drew Guelzow won first place in the VICA Quiz Bowl.

The VICA Quiz Bowl Team will advance to the National VICA U.S. Skills Olympics in Kansas City that begins Sunday.

VICA is an organization that prepares students for futures in trade, industrial, technical and health occupations.

SUE HODGE, fourth-grade teacher at Oak Grove Elementary School, has been named Roanoke County's Teacher of the Year.

ADRIAN HOPPER, fifth-grade teacher at Clearbrook Elementary School, has been named Outstanding Teacher of the Year by the Scottish Rite Masons.

DEBORAH BEIRNE, fifth-grade teacher at W.E. Cundiff Elementary School, has been selected as the 1995-96 Sallie Mae Teacher of the Year for Roanoke County Schools. This award is given annually to an outstanding first-year teacher.

GAMMA ALPHA CHAPTER OF OMEGA PSI PHI FRATERNITY INC. held its annual Talent Hunt program in March at the YMCA Family Youth Center on Orange Avenue. This year the program was held jointly with the Rho Iota Chapter of Danville. The National Talent Hunt will be held in Los Angeles, Calif.; winners in the district competitions will compete there.

The winner was Shana Waller. Waller, daughter of Thomas and Janis Waller, attends Patrick Henry High School and Roanoke Valley Governor's School for Mathematics and Science. She won first place for her portrayal of Harriet Tubman in a monologue.

Kianna Price, daughter of Charles and Anita Price, was first runner-up in voice and will perform at the district competition if the first-place contestant is unable to perform. Price, an alto singer, performed "Vision of a Sunset," composed by Shawn Stockman. Hill is a senior at Patrick Henry High School.

Renea M. Hill, daughter of Debra Hill, was second runner-up. Hill performed "Amazing Grace," composed by John Newton, on the piano. Hill also is a senior at Patrick Henry High School.
