Sadly, the daytime soap world has lost another long-time member of the genre. Michael Fox, who played Saul Feinberg on ``The Bold and the Beautiful'' for the past eight years (his final episode aired June 18), died of complications from pneumonia June 1. He was at the Motion Picture Home in Woodland Hills, Calif., at the time of his death. Funeral services were private, but there will be a memorial service June 30 at the Directors Guild of America in West Hollywood.
Although Fox is known the world over for his work on ``The Bold and the Beautiful'' (the show airs in several European markets), the first daytime soap the actor appeared in was ``The Clear Horizon'' (1960-61). A veteran of the stage, Fox was on Broadway in ``The Story of Mary Surratt,'' which starred Dorothy Gish. He also starred opposite Susan Hayward, Joan Crawford, Mae West, Betty Davis and Zsa Zsa Gabor. He was in the feature films ``The Longest Yard,'' ``Young Frankenstein,'' ``Quicksilver,'' ``The Girl in the Kremlin,'' ``Top Secret Affair'' and ``What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?''
Fox guest-starred on the prime time series ``Cagney & Lacey,'' ``MacGyver,'' ``Quincy,'' ``St. Elsewhere,'' ``Knight Rider'' and more recently on ``ER'' and ``NYPD Blue.''
In the mid-'60s, Fox was a founder of Theater East, an actors organization, and in the '70s he produced several documentaries.
Fox is survived by his wife of 49 years, Hannah, a daughter, Jennifer, and a son, David. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Actors Fund of America in Fox's name.
The actor will be sorely missed by his ``Bold and Beautiful'' castmates as well as his fans, who enjoyed the zany interaction between Fox and Darlene Conley, who plays his on-screen boss, Sally Spectra. | United Feature Syndicate
