ACCIDENT TAKES LIFE OF RETIRED EAR SURGEON

A 75-year-old retired ear surgeon died Wednesday morning after a single-vehicle accident near his Southwest Roanoke home.

Houston Lesher Bell blacked out as he drove down Belle Aire Circle. His car knocked down several mailboxes and rolled past his home before hitting a tree at the end of the street.

Bell died of multiple injuries received in the accident, according to Dr. William Massello, assistant deputy chief medical examiner.

Bell was an ear surgeon at Gill Memorial Hospital for more than 25 years.
