Bonor-center hours
BLACKSBURG - The hours for the New River Valley Donor Center, located at 130 W. Jackson St., are: Tuesdays, noon-6 p.m., and Fridays, 11 a.m.-2 p.m.

The New River Valley Donor Center will be closed today and June 28.
The center is offering a new service - autologous donations - in which people can make self-donations in preparation for anticipated surgery.

Country music contest
RADFORD - The deadline for entering the True Value/Jimmy Dean Country Showdown talent contest is today. The contest will be held at 2 p.m. June 30 at Bisset Park in Radford.
Aspiring stars will compete for $1,000 cash prizes and the opportunity to perform in the state competition later this year. State winners will advance to regional finals in the fall. Winners of regional contests will travel to Orlando for the national final at Walt Disney World. The grand prize is $50,000 and a recording contract.
The contest is open to vocalists, instrumentalists and groups of up to seven members who have not had a record listed in the national record charts of Billboard, Radio and Records or the Gavin Report within the last 18 months. Forms can be obtained from Hudson's in Pulaski, Pilot Homes and All Country or by calling Kool Country at 639-2461. Entry fee is $5.
Literacy benefit
CHRISTIANBURG - Giovanni's Italian Restaurant will have a grand-opening benefit celebration 6-9 p.m. Saturday at 9 Radford Road. The ribbon-cutting will be at 5:15 p.m. A donation of $20 will be accepted at the door, with proceeds going to New River Valley Literacy Volunteers. Call the volunteers at 382-7262.
