An early morning fire at Lewis-Gale Hospital on Thursday caused only minor damage, and no one was injured. The fire was contained to an area separate from the hospital's patients and medical staff.
The fire started in some machinery in the waste management department, Salem Assistant Fire Chief Pat Counts said. It was under control before firefighters arrived.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, but it does not appear suspicious, Counts said.
