Two decades after the army assassinated Bangladesh's founding father, his daughter - who helped end the military rule that followed him - was sworn in Sunday as prime minister.
``My first job will be to restore peace and political stability for rapid economic development,'' Sheikh Hasina told reporters after taking the oath of office.
Hasina's liberal Awami League finished first in this month's parliamentary elections but still faces a strong challenge from the party that has governed Bangladesh since 1991. Former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, leader of the centrist Bangladesh Nationalist Party and Hasina's bitter rival, did not attend Sunday's ceremony.
