A man walked into a Plantation Road convenience store Sunday and asked for two packs of cigarettes and a brand of cigars the store doesn't carry. When the clerk gave him the news, he demanded all the money in the cash drawer, police said.
The robber kept one hand in his pants to indicate he had a gun, but no weapon was displayed. The clerk at the Turbo Food Market handed him the cash. The man took the money and the cigarettes and fled in a small blue car about 5:20 a.m.
Roanoke police also reported finding a 37-year-old Southwest Roanoke man walking along the 600 block of Day Avenue early Sunday in the nude. The man told police that four men drove up in a car and began shouting homosexual slurs at him.
Three of the men got out of the car, beat him and ripped his clothes off, the man told police. When police caught up to him about 2:40 a.m., he was intoxicated and could not provide any other details, police said. He refused medical treatment, and an officer drove him home.
