4 STUDENTS NAMED SENIORS OF MONTH FOR JUNE

The following Montgomery County students were named Outstanding Seniors of the Month for June.

* Randell E. Hall recently graduated from Auburn High School, where he was a four-year member of the Vocational Industrial Clubs of America. He also served as vice president and secretary of the association. This past year, Hall competed at the regional VICA conference, where he won first-place awards in cabinetmaking and carpentry. Hall then advanced to the state competition where he placed second place in cabinetmaking and fourth place in carpentry.

Hall's other activities included playing junior varsity football and basketball. He also was in the choir for a year. Hall works at Mac's Custom Workshop. He is the son of Charlie and Juanita Hall of Radford.

* Blacksburg High graduate Tucker C. LaForce was a three-year member of the football team. During the 1994 and 1995 seasons, he was named to First Team All New River District, First Team All City-County and Who's Who in Sports. This past year, he also was named New River District Offensive Player of the Year. In addition to football, LaForce played baseball and ran track for one season. LaForce served as vice president of the Pep Club and was a member of the Monogram Club.

LaForce is a member of the Mountain View Methodist Church. He is the son of Boyd and Janis Grubb of Blacksburg.

* Cara A. Critzer served as both secretary of the senior class and the student council during her senior year at Christiansburg High School. Critzer was previously class vice president as a sophomore and junior. In addition to school government, she participated in various other organizations, including three years in the Swing Choir, Future Business Leaders of America, Health Occupations Students of America and the yearbook staff. She also served on the Choral Executive Board and was captain of the cheerleading squad as a senior. Critzer also was CHS's Homecoming Queen this past year.

She has volunteered for the Montgomery County Social Services and at the Montgomery County Christmas Store. She is the daughter of Mary Critzer of Christiansburg and Cecil Critzer of Blacksburg.

* Shawsville High School graduate Jeremy Howard has spent many hours training as an emergency medical technician with the Shawsville Rescue Squad. As a high school junior and senior, he was certified in three areas: advanced life support, advanced cardiac management and advanced airway management. Howard also is certified by the American Red Cross in the areas of cardiopulmonary resuscitation and emergency cardiac care for infants, children and adults.

At Shawsville High, Howard was active in the Beta Club, Swing Choir and the Advanced Ensemble Swing Choir. He also has been recognized academically, having received the Academic Bar, Who's Who Among American High School Students, U.S. Navy Honor Program and certificate of achievement from the U.S. Navy. Howard is the son of Clarence and Wanda Boone of Elliston. |n n| Shriti Bharat Patel of Radford was selected to two leadership positions at Episcopal High School in Alexandria. Patel, who will be a senior next fall, will serve as a monitor and member of the school's honor committee for the 1996-97 school year. Monitors supervise student dormitories and act as informational peer counselors to younger students.

Patel is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Bharat R. Patel of Radford. |n n| Thirty-one Shawsville High School students are recipients of the statewide Academic Excellence Award by the Virginia High School League. In its fifth year, the program recognizes individuals who participate in Virginia High School League activities and excel in the classroom. Students must be varsity letter winners in the Virginia High School League activities programs and must maintain at least a 3.0 grade-point average while they participate in their respective sport. Grades for students who were recognized were based on the fifth six weeks grading period. The names of the students and their sport follows:

* VARSITY TRACK - Jeremy Clark, Jeremy Flight, Daniel Goff, Jedidiah Marrs, Robbie Pannell, Darren Simmons, Georgia Bryant, Jacqueline Cerva, Heather Erskine, Megan Forster, Heather Hall, Jessica Harr, Lynn Heffron, Kristi Henson, Julene Hyatt, Beth Linkenhoker, Jessica Smith, Christina St. Clair, Cindy Yopp.

* VARSITY BASEBALL - Joey Shively, Mark Akers, Barnett Carr, Chance Hall, Arlis Conner, Paul Sink.

* GIRLS TENNIS - Shannon Radford, Staci Harless, Sarah Hagood, Marlynna Christian, Wendy Rencsok, Heather Hall.
