The New York Times is considering plans to include separate sections on sports, culture and perhaps two other topics, its first such move in 20 years.
An expansion from the current four weekday sections to as many as eight will be possible when a new printing plant starts up in late 1997, Lance R. Primis, president and chief operating officer of New York Times Co., said at a media industry conference Monday.
The last time the Times expanded the daily paper was in 1976, when it began a move away from its two-section format to offer readers four sections. The effort was completed in 1978.
``Look for six to eight sections,'' Primis told media executives and financial analysts. He said the expansion could happen in 1998. |-Associated Press
