BROOKS, Atwood Gordon, 82, of Richmond, died Sunday, June 23, 1996, at his home. He had been executive assistant to Governor Mills E. Godwin Jr. and Chairman of the State Library Board. A life-long Virginia educator, he had been teacher and dean of boys at Ferrum Junior College and a teacher and coach at West Point High School, a principal in Nansemond and Campbell Counties and Roanoke, Superintendent of Schools in Botetourt County and Assistant Superintendent, State Department of Education. After retirement, he was active in the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and received its Award for Outstanding Educational Achievement. Born in Mathews County, he graduated from the University of Virginia, M. Ed., 1950, and Randolph Macon College, A.B., 1938, LL.D., 1969. He served in the U. S. Navy in the Pacific from 1941-1945. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church and participated in the Shepherd's Center. He was the widower of Polly Terretta Brooks. His survivors include a brother, Aubrey Coles Brooks of Norfolk; a daughter, Betsy Brooks Carr (Mrs. Thomas F.); and three grandsons, Tommy, Gordon and Jimmy Carr, all of Richmond. Memorial contributions may be made to Randolph Macon College, First Presbyterian Church, Virginia Historical Society, or a favorite charity. A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church on Cary Street Road at 1 p.m. on Thursday, June 27. Those wishing to join the family for the graveside burial at Hollywood Cemetery at noon are welcome to do so. The family will receive visitors at the Carr home Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and on Wednesday from 3 to 5 p.m.

DAVID, Lowell Thomas Sr., 56, of Penhook, died Monday, June 24, 1996, in a Roanoke hospital. He was born June 4 , 1940, a son of the late Emmett Dickerson and Viola May David; and was preceded in death by a sister, Janie D. Zeigler; a brother, Raymond D. David; his father-in-law, Bud Speck. Surviving are his wife, Sylvia Speck David, of the home; one daughter and son-in-law, Sherry and Greg Jones; two sons and daughters-in-law, Tommy David and Shirley Law, Cale and Jean David, all of Penhook; his grandchildren, Amanda, Justin, Kayla, Dena; one brother, Russell Carlton David, Martinsville; his mother-in-law, Kathy Speck, Penhook; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday in Flora Funeral Chapel with Rev. Gene Ashworth officiating. Interment will follow in the family cemetery. GEORDON, Phillip C., 68, of 2610 Clovis Street, Bluefield, W.Va., died Monday, June 24, 1996, in a Bluefield hospital. Born in Bluefield, he was a son of the late George and Cora Virginia Hare Geordon. He was a member of the First Christian Church, and was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He retired from the N & W. Railroad as a carman after over 40 years of service. He was an Elder and very active in the church. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Arlene Geordon and Mrs. Von (Virginia) Musser; and a brother, Paul John Geordon. Surviving are his wife, Bertie Jenny Whittaker Geordon of Bluefield; daughters, Mrs. Rick (Diane) Jennell of Pearisburg, Pamela Arlene Geordon of Winston-Salem, N.C.; sisters, Mrs. Paul M. (Vernie) Umberger of Cumberland, Md., Mrs. James E. (Hilda) McNeer of Clarksburg, W.Va.; grandchildren, Cindy Noel Walters of Daytona Beach, Fla., Rikki Renee Jennell of Pearisburg, Jamie Lynn Jennell of Pearisburg. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, June 26, 1996, at 2 p.m. from the First Christian Church with the Rev. C. Michael Cunningham officiating. HILL, Dorothy June, 80, of Glasgow, died Monday, June 24, 1996, at her residence. She was born on June 13, 1916, in Greenbrier County, W.Va., a daughter of the late Fred Spicer Williams and Ida Crookshanks Williams. Mrs. Hill was preceded in death by her husband, James Andrew Hill Jr., who died this past June 9, 1996; and a daughter, Janet H. Montgomery. For many years she worked with her husband in the Valley Trading Post, Arnolds Valley. Mrs. Hill was a member of the Central Baptist Church. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, William K. ``Sonny'' and Sandy Hill, Radford; one brother and sister-in-law, James L. and Hazel M. KING, Alma Lucinda, 84, of Tullahoma, Tenn., formerly of Roanoke, died Sunday, June 23, 1996. She was preceded in death in 1987 by her husband, Samuel Roland King, and in 1995 by her daughter, Barbara Jane King. She is survived by three daughters, Kathleen D. Whitlock of Roanoke, Anita Cook and Patricia Osmundsen, both of Tullahoma, Tenn.; her son, Stephen Roland King of Christiansburg; six sisters; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grand children. MARTIN, Madeline Scott, 74, of Pembroke, passed away sunday, June 23, 1996 at her daughter's home. Mrs. Martin was formerly of Wells Bridge, N.Y. and was a daughter of the late Senator Turner Scott and Viola Scott of Thomaston, Ga. Mrs. Martin was also preceded in death by her husband, John Martin of New York. Mrs. Martin was a member of the Baptist congregation in Wells Bridge, N.Y., as well as the Eastern Star. She is survived by one daughter, Diana (Dede) Hunt of Pembroke; one son, Morgan E. Scott of Roanoke; one sister, Helen Flowers of Mobil, Alabama; five grandchildren, Michael Scott, Reno Scott, Nora Lucas, Hilary Hunt, and Kara Hunt. Born March 10, 1941 in Rockbridge County, he was the son of the late Andy Berry Sorrells and Lelia Clark Sorrells of Buena Vista. He was a self-employed contractor. He was preceded in death by a granddau ghter, Amanda Brook Clark. In addition to his mother, he is survived by four children, David L. Sorrells, Teresa S. Clark, Tracy S. Clevenger, and Holly M.
