SENIOR ATHLETES QUALIFY FOR NATIONAL MEET MARGIE PUGH HELPS DORIS OLIVER COOL DOWN AFTER SHE COMPLETES THE FIVE-KILOMETER WALK.

The senior athletes of Montgomery County attended The Virginia Golden Olympics at the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg early this month. Twenty-five athletes competed in a wide range of events and won a total of 66 medals. The following members qualified to compete in the U.S. National Senior Sports Classic VI in Tucson, Ariz. The event will be held in May 1997.

Age category 85-89

Catherine McKenzie: Five-kilometer walk, horseshoes, 1,500-meter walk.

Shockey Price: bowling, horseshoes.

Ages 80-84

Janie Howell: bowling (doubles) and horseshoes.

Laura Taylor: bowling (doubles).

Winnie Simmons: bowling.

Ages 75-79

Irene Orndoff: horseshoes.

Elvira Laster: Five-kilometer walk, 400-meter freestyle, 50-meter breaststroke, 200-meter freestyle.

Age Category 70-74

Louise Akers: Five-kilometer race, 1,500-meter race, 800-meter race, 400-meter race.

Ages 69-65

Don Oliver: horseshoes.

David Thomas: 1,500-meter walk.

Janice Hixon: horseshoes.

Betty Hanbury: Five-kilometer cycling.

Ages 60-64

Doris Oliver: Five-kilometer walk, shot put.

Betty Gordon: archery.

Dick Wadley: 50-meter freestyle, 50-meter breaststroke, long jump.
