SCHOOL BOARD APPOINTEES ANNOUNCED

City Council has appointed an incumbent and two newcomers to the Bedford City School Board.

Molly Thompson, chairwoman of the board, was reappointed. Debora Spinner, a telemarketer, and Mickey VanDerweker, an educational consultant, were appointed to three-year terms.

Incumbent Diana Bare, the current vice chairman, will fill an unexpired term until June 30, 1997.

Six people, including three incumbents, sought the three full terms and one unexpired term. Elizabeth Bailey, the city's representative on the Bedford County School Board, was not reappointed. All appointments were made at City Council's meeting Tuesday night.

In addition to approving a $26 million budget, City Council also named several residents to boards and commissions: Charlene McFall to the city Planning Commission; Edna Hayden, Redevelopment and Housing Authority; Brian Buchanan, Recreation Advisory Committee; Penny Carter, Regional Library Board; and Billy Hackworth, Ben Hurd and Clarence Stanley, Local Building and Code Board of Appeals.
