A Roanoke County man has pleaded guilty in Rockingham County Circuit Court to two misdemeanor counts of obtaining property by false pretenses - plaques he won in a big-game show.
A felony charge of passing a forged document was dropped in a plea deal reached Wednesday in the case of Charles C. Nichols.
Nichols, 36, was given a two-year suspended sentence and fined $4,000, but $3,500 of the fine was suspended, leaving $500 to be paid. He also lost his privilege to hunt in Virginia for five years.
State Game Warden Tom Wine said Nichols entered two deer racks - an 11-pointer and an eight-pointer - in a Rockingham County game show. He won prizes for both, which qualified him for a statewide contest.
In the state contest, he won again for the two racks, Wine said.
Nichols actually paid $1,100 for the two sets of antlers, which were from Montana.
