A SECOND GENERATION FATHER OF THE YEAR IN RADFORD

PEOPLE

Buddy R. Hinkley of Radford is the Father of the Year at the Church of God on First Street in Radford.

At 81, Hinkley is still active in the church and sings in the local group the Young at Heart, in which all the members are at least 75.

He has been married for 60 years to Elizabeth Hinkley. The couple has two sons, Emmett Hinkley of Orlando, Fla., and Dan Hinkley of Atlanta.

Buddy Hinkley's father, Walter Hinkley, who had 18 children, was named Radford's Father of the Year in 1951, when he was 67.

SERVICES

Christiansburg's Holy Spirit Catholic Church will have Mass at its summer hours at 6 p.m. today at Our Saviour Lutheran Church in Christiansburg. 382-8028.

Blacksburg's St. Mary's Catholic Church on Harding Avenue will celebrate Mass at 5 p.m. today, and at 8:45 and 11:15 a.m. Sunday. The readings will be: 2 Kings 4:8-11, 14-16; Psalms 89:2-3, 16-19; Romans 6:3-4, 8-11; and Matthew 10:37-42. 552-1091.

Members of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Christiansburg will travel to Ferrum College's United Methodist Women's Day celebration today. The celebration will feature a dinner theater performance of "The General and His Lady," about the life of Mrs. Robert E. Lee, and a talk on "Teaching the Civil War to Students of the '90s," by a Ferrum College professor. The cost is $12 per person. 382-6171.

Radford-area churches are sponsoring a New River Community Revival July 7 through 10 at Page's Meeting House on Hickman Cemetery Road in Radford. 639-5185 or 639-1388.

The 18th annual Robert Sheffey Memorial Camp Meeting will be held at 7 p.m. nightly starting at the end of next week. The camp meeting will run Friday through July 12 at the campground near Wesley's Chapel in Trigg. VACATION BIBLE SCHOOLS

At Christ Episcopal Church in Blacksburg two family night programs July 24 and Aug. 24 will replace the usual ecumenical vacation Bible school this summer. A potluck meal at 5:30 p.m. will begin the events with the programs beginning at 6:15 and ending by 8:30.
