A former nurse at the Danville Regional Medical Center has filed a federal lawsuit contending he was humiliated by sexual comments from his female superiors at the hospital.
In the suit filed in U.S. District Court, Danny McNichols said he was subjected to sexual harassment and a hostile work environment from the time he began work at the hospital as a registered nurse in 1992 until he was fired in December 1994.
During that time, all of McNichols' superiors were women, according to the suit filed last week.
McNichols contends his supervisors gave him ``disparate and negative job performance evaluations based upon gender, including and not limited to negative evaluations due to [McNichols'] being allergic to female co-workers excessive use of perfumes.''
The lawsuit seeks unspecified damages and a jury trial.
McNichols filed a complaint with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the federal agency that reviews discrimination claims, and received permission to sue the hospital, according to the suit.
In the lawsuit, McNichols alleged that his superiors often made jokes and disparaging remarks about men.
Among other things, he alleged he was accused by supervisors of having ``vagina envy'' and was subjected to ``sexist displays of authority'' by a supervisor who compared herself to Lorena Bobbitt, the Virginia woman who drew national attention after she was accused of cutting off her husband's penis.
