NICHOLS, R. Kenneth, Sr., 74, of Huddleston, passed away Saturday, June 29, 1996, in a local nursing home. He was the husband of Lois Dowdy Nichols. Born in Bedford County on May 22, 1921, he was a son of the late R. L. and Eva Witt Nichols. Kenneth was a farmer and cattleman. He sold meat and produce on the Lynchburg Community Market for 35 years. He was a lifelong member of Mentow Baptist Church, and was a member of Mentow Lodge #180. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Rebecca N. Wille and her husband, Scott, of Charlotte, N.C.; three sons, Robert K. (``Nick"") Nichols and his wife, Ann, of Forest, Barry M. Nichols and his wife, Marie, of Radford, and Phillip K. Nichols and his wife, Suzanne, of Bedford; two grandsons, Cory and Ryan Nichols of Bedford; three sisters, Ethlene N. Martin of Bedford, Phyllis N. Daniels of Lewisburg, W.Va., and Faye N. Stevens of Lynch Station, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Kenneth was predeceased by three brothers and five sisters. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, July 1, 1996, from Mentow Baptist Church by the Rev. Daren Davis. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. OVERSTREET, Thomas L., (``Tom""), 79, of Vinton, died Friday, June 28, 1996. He was an active member of the Lynn Haven Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife, Christine Baldwin Overstreet; two sons and daughters-in-law, John H. and Dottie Overstreet of Hollins, and Larry E. and Grace Overstreet of Roanoke County; four g randchildren, Tracie Conley and husband Michael, John E. Overstreet, Daniel H. Overstreet and Mark A. Overstreet; a sister, Louise Blount of Vinton, and a brother, Floyd W. Overstreet of Roanoke County. Funeral services will be at Oakey's Vinton Chapel at 3 p.m. Monday, July 1, 1996, with Dr. Jay Owens and the Rev. Brian Jones officiating. Interment will be in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 2, 1996 at St. Stephens United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Robbie Moore and the Rev. George Yates officiating. RICKMAN, Helen Hiner, 73, of Buchanan, died Friday, June 28, 1996. She was retired from the Botet ourt County School System and was a lifelong member of Arcadia Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, W. Thomas Rickman, and three sons, Kenneth Rickman, Thomas Rickman and Jeffery Rickman. She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Clara and Gene Moseley of Buchanan and Bonnie and John Smith of Collinsville; four sons and three daughters-in-law, Larry Rickman of Ben-Salem, Pa., Don and Cindy Rickman of Salem, Tim and Linda Rickman of Buchanan and Lonnie and Amy Rickman of Roanoke; one sister and brother-in-law, Geraldine and Raymond Love of Salem; three sisters-in-law, Dorothy Smith of Buchanan, Frieda Hiner of Troutville and Myrtle Hiner of Montvale; 20 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Monday, July 1, 1996, at 2 p.m., at Arcadia Baptist Church, with the Rev. Earl Dodson officiating. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Rader Funeral Home in Buchanan.

SCOTT, Minnie Elizabeth, 73, of Rocky M ount, died Friday, June 28, 1996. Born August 20, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Charles Oscar and Mary Akers Young. Preceded in death by a daughter, Brenda Sue Owen, she is survived by her husband, George Wesley Scott, of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, George and Debbie Ann Scott, Jr. of Rocky Mount, Robert Wesley and Carla Scott of Spokane, Washington; nine grandchildren, Jason Wesley Scott, Autumn Lee Scott, both of Rocky Mount, Gregory Scott Owen of Bedford, Alicia Owen of Raleigh-Durham, N.C., Kyle Scott, Clint Scott, Margaret Elizabeth Scott, all of San Diego, Calif.; four great-grandchildren; one cousin, Resee Saunders of Salem. TIEDEMANN, Robert L, II, (Bobby), 32, of Baltimore, Md., passed away suddenly on Tuesday, June 25, 1996 in Baltimore. He is survived by his loving parents, Mary Lou Tiedemann of Baltimore, Robert L. and Betty S. (stepmother) of Salem, Va.; Bobby's devoted son, Robert L. III ( Little Bobby) and fiancee, Jacqueline A. Ward, both fro m Baltimore. He was the dear brother of Sherry L. Carr of Virginia Beach, Dedra L. Tiedemann of Roanoke, Christopher Mark and Michael Shawn Tiedeman of Salem, Va. Bobby is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He will be loved and missed by all that knew him. Robert L. II (Bobby) was laid to rest at the Hubbard Funeral Home, Inc., 4107 Wilkins Ave, Baltimore, Md., where relatives and friends attended services on Friday at 11 a.m. Interment was in Crestlawn Memorial Gardens.
TRAINUM, Ruth Zimmerman (Swartz), 87, of 113 Par Dr., Salem, formerly of Craig St., Craigsville, Va., died Saturday morning, June 29, 1996, at her residence following an extended illness. Born at Buchanan on June 14, 1909, she was a daughter of the late Hugh N. and Janie (Zimmerman) Swartz. She married Patrick H. Trainum on June 16, 1934. He preceded her in death on October 15, 1991. She graduated from the Madison State Teachers College in Harrisonburg and taught high school in Craigsville and Buffalo Gap for 33 years. She was a life-long member of the Craigsville Presbyterian Church, where she served as an Elder, Treasurer, Sunday School Teacher and a Bible Study teacher in the Presbyterian Women's Circle. After moving to Salem, she attended the Salem Presbyterian Church for the past six years. She is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, Ruthie and Richard Barnette, Alice and Aubrey Lester, all of Salem, and Patricia Field of Annapolis, Md.; five grandchildren, Patrick Field of Annapolis, Shawn and Joann Field of Crofton, Md., Andrew Field of Richmond, Ann Lester of Thomasville, N.C. and Christine and Lee Johnson of Salem; two great-grandsons, Brandon Donnelly and Cameron Field, both of Crofton, Md. Also surviving are a brother, Hugh N. Swartz of Martinsville; and two sisters, Dr. Jean G. Swartz of Troutville and Billie Jo Alphin of Charlottesville. A funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, July 1, 1996, at the Craigsville Presbyterian Church, officiated by the Rev. M. Olivia Kincaid Haney. Interment will follow in the Fairview Cemetery in Buchanan. Pallbearers will be John Youell, Keith Baker, H. Junior Malcolm, John Goff, Edward Parker, Walter Morrison and Donald Ingram. The family will receive friends this afternoon from 2 to 4 p.m. at Sensabaugh, Zimmerman and Hedberg Funeral Home, Craigsville.
VERNAMONTI, Nancy Duncan Poole, 69, of Las Vegas, Nev formerly of Roanoke, passed away Thursday, June 27, 1996. She is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Guilliams; grandaughter, Jamie Guilliams of Henderson, Nev; sisters, Marguerite DuBois of Yorba Linda, Cal., Helen Gilbert of Salem; brothers, Giles Duncan of Salem, Tommy Duncan of Roanoke.
WELLS, Claudia Capito, 88, of Roanoke, died Saturday, June 29, 1996, at her residence. Mrs. Wells was a retired secretary for First Baptist Church and was a member of First Baptist Church. Surviving are two brothers, Ernest V. Capito and Earl J. Capito of Roanoke, and several nieces and nephews, including Barry Capito of Roanoke. Funeral services will be at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel at noon Monday, July 1, 1996, with Dr. Charles G. Fuller and the Rev. John D. Cochran officiating. Interment will be Evergreen Burial Park. YOUNG, William W., (``Bill""), 70, of Grant, the Crossroads Community, passed away Thursday, June 27, 1996 at Hermitage Methodist Home, Richmond, Va. He was born August 17, 1925 at Grayson County, Va. to Marshal Cleon and Ona Virginia Young Young. Mr. Young was a U. S. Air Force veteran, having served in World War II, and the Korean and Viet Nam Wars. He retired from the U. S. Postal Service as a rural letter carrier. Survivors include his daughter, Pam Young, Richmond; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Kenneth and Vera Young, J. C. and Cavell Young, all of the Crossroads Community, Grant, Va.; sister and brother-in-law, Anita and Earl Repp, West Covina, Calif.; brother-in-law, Pete Boehm, Hemet, Calif.; sister-in-law, Patricia Young, El Paso, Texas; and several nieces and nephews also survive. A memorial service will be conducted Wednesday, July 3, 1996, at 7 p.m. at New Hope Church in the Crossroads Community near Grant, Va., with the Rev. Camet Halsey officiating.
