CELEBRATIONS - ANNIVERSARIES

Bohon anniversary

Willard W. & Gladys Marie Bohon celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on June 29, 1996. The celebration was hosted by their daughter & son-in-law. Family & friends helped celebrate the event at the home of their daughter.|

She is the former Gladys Marie Hambrick of Roanoke. She was employed by S.H. Kress, Roanoke Mills and G.E. for 33 years. Willard served in the U.S. Army during World War II, with duty in Europe & Africa. He was employed at American Viscose, Yale & Town and G.E. for 25 years. Both are now retired.|

Willard & Marie have lived in the Roanoke-Salem area their entire life. They have a daughter & son-in-law, Donna & Ralph Knoebel and two grandchildren, Ross & Kelley. They are active members of Temple Baptist Church and she serves as pianist. They were married June 29, 1946.

Bowman anniversary

Samuel C. and Carlene R. Bowman of Troutville, Va., celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary on June 23, 1996, with a reception in the Fellowship Hall of the Trinity Church of the Brethren. The event was hosted by their children and their spouses. They have 4 children and 8 grandchildren. The couple was married June 22, 1946 in the Trinity Church of the Brethren by the late Rev. E. C. Woodie. They are long-time members and have attended the Trinity Church for many years.

She is the former Carlene Rieley of Troutville. Sam served 3 years in the U.S. Navy during World War II and is now retired from the N & W Railway. Before her retirement, Carlene worked for the Government in Washington, D.C. several years and with various companies in Roanoke.

They would like to express their appreciation to all the family and friends that joined in this joyous occasion.

Dangerfield anniversary

Lewis & Earlene were married 50 years ago on July 2, 1946 after his 41/2 years of service in World War II. They have one son, Charles (Chuck) and daughter-in-law, Barbara. Two special grandsons, Kyle and David. Lewis is retired from Bralley Willett Tank Lines and Earlene retired from Tultex. They celebrated this joyous occasion with family at their son & daughter-in-law's home. God has truly blessed them with family, love, health and happiness.

DeWeese anniversary

Laymond and Marvis DeWeese celebrated their 50th anniversary on June 29th. The celebration dinner was hosted by their four children and families. They were married June 29, 1946. Their children are Wayne, Roger, Thomas and Mike. they have six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Fontenot anniversary

Mr. and Mrs. Joseph P. Fontenot of Blacksburg celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Saturday, June 29, 1996, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Blacksburg. Father Donald Lemay officiated their renewal of vows. Mr. and Mrs. Fontenot were married June 29, 1946, by Father A. Montel at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Eunice, Louisiana.

Following their renewal of vows, their children, spouses, and grandchildren took them to dinner at La Maison in Roanoke.

Mr. and Mrs. Fontenot's children and spouses are Beatrice and Thom Mills and Karleen Fontenot of Blacksburg; Sue and Tim Haeberle of Spring, Texas; Debbie and Joe Pallini of Tomball, Texas; Paul and Jeannette Fontenot of Baltimore, Maryland; and Linda and Tim Winder of Richmond. Their grandchildren are Kara Mills; Elizabeth and Caroline Guinn; Hunter and Heather Haeberle; Kelly, Michael, and Matthew Pallini; Joe and Dana Fontenot; and Emily and Kevin Winder.

Mr. Fontenot is the John W. Hancock, Jr. Professor of Animal Nutrition at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.

Hilton anniversary

Richard and Virginia Hilton celebrated their 50th anniversary on June 24, 1996. The family hosted a dinner in honor of this occasion. Their family would like to dedicate this Bible verse to them: ``Remember the days of old, Consider the years of many generations.'' Deuteronomy 32:7.

Paine anniversary

Dr. Robert E. Paine, Jr. (``Dr. Bob'') and Alice Frances Parson Paine recently celebrated their 50th anniversary. They were married May 1, 1946.

Pendleton anniversary

Edward and Alice Pendleton celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary on June 28th, 1996. The celebration, hosted by their children, is being held at the home of Jerry and Gayle Hodge. The couple were married June 28, 1946 in Monks Corner, S.C. Mrs. Pendleton is the former Alice Marie Parrack. The Pendleton's have 4 children, Glen Pendleton of Thaxton, Gayle Hodge of Salem, Susan Eanes of Roanoke, and Eric Pendleton of Salem; also 6 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

Taylor anniversary

Doris Ann and Gene Taylor celebrated their 50th anniversary on June 27, 1996. The celebration was held at Hotel Roanoke with the immediate family. It was hosted by their son, Gene Taylor, Jr. and his wife, Donna, of Ohio, and grandsons, Hampton & Stuart Taylor, daughter, Anne and her husband, Robert Williams, of Fincastle, Va. and grandsons, Bob and Jeremy Williams. Mr. Taylor was retired from Philip Morris & Co. and served during World War II. Mrs. Taylor is the former Doris Ann Holland of Rocky Mt., Va. were they were married. She is a retired registered nurse from Lewis-Gale Hospital. They are both members of Raleigh Court Methodist Church.
