CAUDLE, Billy DeLeon, 71, of Camelot Hall Nursing Home, Roanoke, passed away Monday, July 1, 1996. He was retired from Easter n Motor Inns as Night Manager of The Colony House Motel, after receiving an Associate Degree in Business Technology-Management from VWCC. Bill was a former manager of The Arthur Murray Dance Studio. One of his great pleasures was having danced with Katherine Murray numerous times. He was an excellent pool and billiards player, having shot demonstrations with Willie Mosconi, Jimmy Caras and Minnesota ``Fats.'' He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara M. Caudle; son, Larry P. Caudle; and brother, Jimmie Dean Caudle. Surviving in Roanoke are his mother, Edna T. Norton; daughters, Shari Saunders Savage and her husband, Paul, Karen Kessler and husband, Tony, Patricia Vest of Richmond; brothers, Howard O. Caudle and wife, Becky, Burlington, N.C., Bob Caudle and wife, Esther Mae, of Roanoke; six grandchildren; one great-granddaughter. Family memorial service pending. COAKE, Homer L., 76, of Rt. 2, Austinville, died Monday, July 1, 1996. Funeral 1 p.m. Thursday, Bethany United Methodist Church. Arrangements by Reese Funeral Home, Austinville.

FREEBORN, Gladys B., 85, of Beaverton, Ore., formerly of Roanoke, Va., died Saturday, June 29, 1996. Mrs. Freeborn moved to Beaverton from Roanoke in 1988. She was a member of Murray Hills Christian Church in Beaverton. She worked for many years in the business office of Lynchburg General Hospital and worked as a bookkeeper for a heating and plumbing company for 10 years, retiring in 1975. Mrs. Freeborn married Hill D. Freeborn in 1933 in Bluefield, Va. He preceded her in death in 1979. Surviving are her son, Dr. Donald K. Freeborn and wife, Duane (``Johnni"") Freeborn of Beaverton; a granddaughter, Duanne K. Freeborn of Beaverton, and a grandson, Keith Freeborn of Portland, Ore. The family suggests that memorial donations be given to Penn Forest Christian Church, Woman's Bible Class. Funeral services will be conducted at Lotz Roanoke Chapel at 10 a.m. Friday, July 5, 1996, with the Rev. John Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at Lotz Roanoke Chapel, 1001 Franklin Rd., S.W., Roanoke, from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday.

HALE, Blanche Frances, 66, of Roanoke, passed away Tuesday, July 2, 1996. Arrangements by Fizer Funeral Home.

HANNABASS, Ruth Hall, 75, of Roanoke, died Monday, July 1, 1996, in Charlottesville. She was born on September 27, 1920, in Birmingham, Ala., but was raised in Southern Virginia. She was the daughter of the late ``Preacher'' John A. Hall and the late Susie Reed Hall. She was married to the late Carlton L. ``Bill'' Hannabass of Roanoke. Mrs. Hannabass, a talented artist and decorator, applied her skills in the decorating industry for many years in the Roanoke area with such firms as Reid and Cutshall, and Miller and Rhodes. In later years she became interested in the nursing field and worked as a practical nurse. Mrs. Hannabass is survived by two daughters, Cheryl Hannabass Conrad of Loudoun County and Karen Hannabass Scantlin of St. Mary's, Ga. She was the grandmother of four grandsons, R. Watts Conrad III, W.A.S. (Alex) Conrad IV, Carlton J. Conrad, and E. Pierce Scantlin. She is also survived by two sisters, Iris Hodges of Bassett and Edith Hazelwood of Stuart; and three brothers, Horton Hall of Galax, Chester Hall of Roanoke, and Gailon Hall of Arkansas. Two sisters, Hazel and Norma, preceded her in death. Funeral services for Mrs. Hannabass will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at the Big A Church of Christ. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart. LILLY, Edward J., Sr., (``Ed''), 70, of Tallahassee, Fla., died F riday, June 28, 1996. He was a member of the Astoria Park Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses, and was the retired owner/operator of Ed's Vac & Sew Center for 10 years, and a former branch/division manager with the Electrolux Corporation for 25 years. He was preceded in death by a son, Edward J. Lilly Jr. He is survived by his wife, Lela B. Lilly of Tallahassee; sons, Robert P. Lilly of Tallahassee and Roger A. Lilly of Troutville, Va.; a daughter, Sandra Crockett of Tallahassee; brothers, Samuel W. Lilly of New Jersey and Robert F. Lilly of Crawfordsville, Fla.; 13 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, July 1, 1996, at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 2641 Old Bainbridge Rd., Tallahassee, with burial in Culley's MeadowWood, Timber Lane Road, Tallahassee. LONG, Winfred Cromwell, (``W.C.''), 80, of Galax, passed away Tuesday, July 2, 1996, at his home after an extended illness. Born January 19, 1916, in Surry County, N.C., he was the son of the late Alex and Ester Haymore Long. He was a charter member and deacon of the Hillcrest Baptist Church. Survivors include his beloved wife, Ethel Mayes Long; two daughters and sons-in-law, Margaret and Jack Martin of Bristol, Tenn., Rachel and Ray del Campo of Gretna; two sons and daughters-in-law, the Rev. David and Norene Long, Glade Hill, and William (Bill) and Debra Long of Mocksville, N.C.; four sisters, Ruth Long, Greensboro, N.C., Delia Lanners, Morganton, N.C., June Trivett, Hickory, N.C., and Madeline Long, Charlotte, N.C.; two brothers, Edward (Ral) Long, Jonesville, N.C., and Joe Long, Dobson, N.C. Eight grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be held at the Hillcrest Baptist Church Wednesday, July 3. Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. with funeral services to follow. PARHAM, Sidney F., Jr., 78, of Roanoke, formerly of Buena Vista, died Monday, July 1, 1996. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Louise; his children, Sidney F. Parham III of St. Cloud, Minn., Joan Bernichon of Seattle, Wash., John W. Parham of Charlottesville; grandchildren, Sarah and Margaret Parham, Kathleen Corbett, Tiffiny Bernichon. PATTESON, Lois Phipps, 81, of Radford, passed away Tuesday, July 2, 1996, at her home. She was a daughter of the late Steve and Laura Parson Phipps. She taught in public schools for many years. She served as a volunteer at Radford Community Hospital for many years. Survivors include a sister, Mattie Phipps Halsey of Dublin; three brothers, Joe X. Phi pps, Paul Phipps, and Steve Phipps, all of Mouth of Wilson; several nieces and nephews; and great-nieces and nephews. THOMPSON, Dunn N., Jr., (``Junior"") , 72, of Roanoke County, died Tuesday morning, July 2, 1996, at his residence. Junior Thompson was a graduate of William Fleming High School and served in the U. S. Army in the 328th Div. of the Infantry during World War II and was awarded a Silver Star for gallantry in action while serving in the 26th (Yankee) Div. of the 3rd Army in the European Theatre during the war. He was a man of Methodist faith, was president of Thompson Oil Company, Inc., Thompson Enterprises, owner of the Towers Motel in Myrtle Beach and affiliated with several other businesses. Junior was past president of the Hollins Road Lions Club, a member of the American Legion, a member of Williamson Road Masonic Lodge #163, the Scottish Rite Bodies and the Kazim Shrine Temple. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dunn N., Sr. and Roxie B. Thompson, a sister and brother-in-law, R uth T. and Alvin C. Early, Sr., his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Goldie M. and Alvin S. Hatcher and a brother-in-law, Alvin L. (Sonny) Hatcher. Surviving are his wife of 43 years, Mary Margaret Hatcher Thompson; his daughter and son-in-law, Roxanne Marie T. and Gordon D. LaPradd, Troutville; his twin grandchildren to be born; a brother, Bueford B. Thompson, Roanoke; his sisters and brothers-in-law, Louise T. and George E. O'Hara, Helen T. and Elmer S. Pillis, Sr., Kathleen T. and M. Frank Martin, all of Roanoke; his sisters-in-law, Joann Hatcher, Roanoke, Mildred H. Leffel and her husband, Ed, Rockville, Md.; a brother-in-law, Gene Hatcher and his wife, Velma, Troutville; also numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Funeral services will be held at Oakey's North Chapel, Friday, July 5, 1996, at 11:30 a.m., with the Rev. Albin P. Crutchfield, Jr. officiating. Interment in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Oakey's North Chapel.

VONDERHAAR, Mark James, 37, of Salem, passed away Monday, July 1, 1996. An employee of Consolidated Roofing, he is survived by his father and mother, James C. and Marlene Vonderhaar; a brother and sister-in-law, Scott Allen and Cindy Ann Vonderhaar; a brother and his fiancee, Jeffrey Raymond Vonderhaar and Kimberley Hickson, and a niece, Brittany Nicole Vonderhaar. A Christian funeral liturgy will be held at 1 p .m. Friday, July 5, 1996, at the chapel of John M. Oakey and Son, Salem, with Father Jim Parke and Father Gregory Kandt officiating.
