IN SCHOOL

WILLIE WAKER, principal of Roanoke County Career Center, has been named the Salem-Roanoke County Chamber of Commerce Educator of the Year.

KRISTA TOLLEY, a ninth-grade student at William Fleming High School, won first place in the state level of the Parent, Teacher, and Student Association Reflections competition, in the area of photography.

Tolley is now eligible for national level competition.

NORFOLK SOUTHERN CORP. recently awarded two scholarships at its annual scholarship luncheon. The winning students are sons or daughters of Norfolk Southern employees or retirees.

Ailee R. Steele, daughter of Gerald R. and Anna Steele, was a recipient of a Norfolk Southern Special Scholarship. Steele is a student at Northside High School.

Brian C. Simpson, son of Johnny W. and Pamela Simpson, was a recipient of an Achievement Scholarship. Simpson also attends Northside High School.

ELIZABETH CLARK, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Clark Sr. of Roanoke, has been awarded the Academic Achievement Scholarship at Cedarville College in Ohio for the 1996-1997 academic year.

A 1996 graduate of Roanoke Valley Christian School, Clark plans to study elementary education in college.

BEN LINKOUS, son of Mr. and Mrs. Barry Linkous of Salem, has been selected as a recipient of a $5,300 academic scholarship for the 1996-1997 academic year at Emmanuel College in Franklin Springs, Ga.

He is a 1996 graduate of Glenvar High School.
