THE BETA DELTA CHAPTER OF EPSILON SIGMA ALPHA INTERNATIONAL recently presented a number of awards to its members. Woman of the Year, Abbie Hairston; 20-year service pin, Susan Garland; First Degree Pallas Athene, Ginger Hodges; Second Degree Pallas Athene, Lorraine Reynolds; and Outstanding Youth, Kristen Paynter.
The Beta Delta chapter has also recently elected new officers for the 1996-97 year. They are: Donna Ross, president; Shirley Krista, vice president; Lorraine Reynolds, secretary; Abbie Hairston, treasurer; Ginger Hodges, parliamentarian; and Shelby Hodges, junior past president.
Epsilon Sigma Alpha is an organization that raises funds for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and Easter Seals.
SHARON HAMMOND, reference librarian for the Roanoke County Library, was recently honored as a runner-up in the adult category of the 1996 Virginia Environmental Stewardship Awards.
THE TRANQUILITY FOUNDATION recently named its new board of trustees. Croxson Memorial Award; Calvary Baptist Foundation, MHA Partnership; Dr. John McDowell, Unsung Hero; Katie Van Patten, Distinguished Service; and Dr. Gudrun Freeman, MHARV Volunteer of the Year.
KRISTEN D. COLLINS of Vinton has been named to the board of directors of Virginia's Junior Miss program in Roanoke. Collins will serve as the board's publicity chair.
AMVETS AUXILIARY No. 2 recently held officer elections for the 1996-97 membership year. The officers are: Pamela J. Smith, president; Belva Matherly, first vice president and secretary; Myrtle Hannah, second/third vice president; Julia M. Shultz, treasurer; Jean Seleno, hospital chairman; Nina Board, chaplain.
AMVETS No. 2 was also named "Auxiliary of the Year" at last year's National Convention in Cincinnati.
THE TRIAD S.A.L.T. COUNCIL OF THE ROANOKE VALLEY has elected Marie Foster vice president of the council. June Cosnotti will serve as secretary.
Don Thorne is now serving as president of the Triad S.A.L.T. Council, which is a cooperative effort of law enforcement and seniors working together to implement effective crime prevention for older community members.
