COX, Katie Mae Horsley, 89, of Route 1, Big Island, died Wednesday, July 3, 1996, at her residence. She was born in Roanoke County on November 25, 1906, a da ughter of the late William H. Horsley and Mary Lou Owen Horsley. She was preceded in death by her husband, Moses James Cox, and a son, James A. Cox. She was a member of Sedalia Baptist Church. She is survived by a son, Donald H. Cox, Big Island; a daughter, Cinderella Cox Brown, Big Island; four brothers, Landon Horsley, Abraham Horsley, both of Salem, Bob Horsley, Maybank, Texas, Marion Horsley, Lake Worth, Fla.; two sisters, Lottie H. Crockett and Sylvia H. Davis, both of Salem; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 6, 1996, at Sedalia Baptist Church, with the Rev. Jack Miller and the Rev. J. Michael Jones officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Carder-Tharp Funeral Home, Bedford.
CRENSHAW, Mabel B. Wade, 70, of Roanoke, was called home Wednesday, July 3, 1996. She is survived by four children, Charles L. Crenshaw, Mary C. (Wayne) Shorter, Donald ``Duck"" Crenshaw and Avis (Earl) Reynolds, all of Roanoke; three sisters, Jacqueline Harper of Roanoke, Bessie (J. B.) Herod of Alexandria and Ruby (Henry) Williams of Seat Pleasant, Md.; one aunt, Leoma Blake of Charleston, W.Va.; two sisters-in-law, Hannah Wade of Washington, D.C., and Elsie Mae Potter of Roanoke; eight grandchildren, Susan (Nimrod) Johnson of Portsmouth, Charles L. ``Chuck"" (Wanda) Crenshaw Jr. of Richmond, Donald E. (Tuesday) Crenshaw Jr., Delania Lee, Danielle Shorter, Alysia Crenshaw and Ashley Reynolds, all of Roanoke, and Wayne K. Shorter III of Johnson City, Tenn.; 10 great-grandchildren; 16 nieces, nine nephews, two special cousins, Virginia West of Roanoke and Walter ``Ben"" Monroe of New York City; a close and dear friend, Mrs. Edith Reid of Roanoke, and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 6, 1996, at Sweet Union Baptist Church, with the Rev. E. T. Burton officiating. Burial will follow in Williams Memorial Park. FARMER, Horace McNeil, 80, of Hillsville, died Wednesday, July 3, 1996 in Raleigh, N.C. He was born June 16, 1916 in Bedford Co., to the late Early Farmer and Pauline Tyee Farmer. He is survived his wife, Ruth Branscomb Farmer, Hillsville; daughter, Pamela Farmer Cohen; son-in-law, Jerry Farmer Cohen, both of Raleigh, N.C.; two grandsons, Aaron Lou is Cohen, and Zachery Edmond Cohen. GARDNER, Evalene Edwards, 76, of Hillsville, passed away Wednesday, July 3, 1996 at Radford Community Hospital. Mrs. Gardner was born May 24, 1920, daughter of the late James H. Edwards and Jo Anna Ogle Edwards. GEORGE, Mary Elizabeth Neal, 81, of Abingdon, died Wednesday, July 3, 1996, in Johnston Memorial Hospital. She was a lifelong residen t of Tazewell County and Southwest Virginia, having retired to Abingdon in 1991. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas E. (``Ed"") George, and her sister, Ellen Neal Humphrey. She is survived by her son, Thomas E. (``Tom"") George Jr. of Tazewell. Graveside services for Mary Elizabeth Neal George will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 8, 1996, in Maplewood Cemetery, Tazewell, with the Rev. Betty Reiff, the Rev. Dr. Rene M. Minshew and the Rev. HILL, Robert Launcelot, Sr., (``Rip""), 74, of Blacksburg, died Wednesday, July 3, 1996 at his home Born in Exmore, Va. on April 30, 1922 to the late Frank H. and Mildred Dull Hill, Mr. Hill retired from the Blacksburg Post Office and the Va. Tech Post Office with over 40 years of service. He was an Enthusiastic sportsman, co-founder of the Blacksburg Horseshoe Club, a U. S. Army veteran of WWII, and a member of the Price's Fork United Methodist Church. Surviving are his wife, Norma Lucas Hill; two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert L. Jr., D.V.M. and Cynthia Hill, Mount Crawford, Va., and Michael L. and Paula H. Hill, Blacksburg; three grandsons, Stuart L. Hill and Seth A. Hill, both of Mount Crawford, Va. and Wesley M. HORNER, Sara T., 54, of Roanoke County, passed away Wednesday, July 3, 1996 in a local hospital. She was a graduate of Gordon College in Massachusetts and taught elementary education in Ph iladelphia, Pa., California and Roanoke County. Mrs. Horner was a member of Garst Mill Presbyterian Church, where she taught Sunday School and was the wife of the Pastor, Richard L. Horner. Also surviving are five children, DaRyan, Matthew, Andrew, Mary and Jennifer Horner; mother, Mrs. Florence M. Timmins of Pennsylvania; two sisters, Nancy Booth of Massachusetts and Mary Alexander; two brothers, George Timmins of Florida and Edward Timmins of Connecticut. Also surviving are a number of nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Services will be held at Oakey's South Chapel, 11 a.m. Saturday, with Elder Everett Franklin of Garst Mill Presbyterian Church officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Burial Park. Veteran, having served in the Army. She was formerly employed with DuPont Chemical and had retired after many years service from printing companies. She is survived by one sister, Mildred L.
