PULASKI MEETING FOCUSES ON NEW ENTERPRISE ZONE

Local business owners and town residents can learn about downtown Pulaski's new Enterprise Zone at an information session to be held at 5 p.m. Tuesday in the Town Council chamber of the Pulaski Municipal Building.

The eligibility of businesses and property for some of the Enterprise Zone perks will be the focus of the session. The meeting, co-sponsored by the Pulaski Business Alliance and the town's Economic Development Department, will also discuss procedures for participating in the program.

Dan Girouard, the Enterprise Zone administrator for the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development in Richmond, will be on hand to talk about the town's Enterprise Zone, created last year, and answer questions about it. So will Barry Matherly, Pulaski's economic development director.

The idea of the program is to help with business and economic expansion as well as neighborhood revitalization by offering a package of state and local incentives for 20 years. The incentives to encourage new businesses and jobs include state and local tax relief, local flexibility on business regulations, and infrastructure development.

Interested citizens are invited to attend and learn more about what the zone means to Pulaski. The zone covers much of the downtown commercial district and both commercial and residential neighborhoods south of Peak Creek.

Further information is available by calling Business Alliance President Pat Gooch at 980-5199 or Matherly at 980-5342.
