The deadline is July 19 for entering the 1996 New River Valley Fair Pageant on July 30 at the New River Valley Fairgrounds.
Contestants must be at least 16 years of age as of July 30, 1996 and no older than 22 years of age as of Jan. 1, 1997, have never married and have no children. Local university or college students are eligible as well as people whose parents reside in the counties of Montgomery, Pulaski, Floyd, Giles, Bland, Wythe or Carroll or the Cities of Radford or Galax. Prizes are: winner, $300; first runner-up, $125; and second runner-up, $75.
Contestants will be judged on beauty, poise and personality.
The winner will represent the New River Valley Fair in January at the State Fair Convention sponsored by the Virginia Fair Association and will compete for the title of Miss Virginia Fair Association. Prizes are: winner, $1,000 scholarship; first runner-up, $500; and second runner-up, $250.
