A story-telling concert featuring two local professional yarn-spinners will be presented from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Alley Cat Books and Gifts shop, at 59 W. Main St. on the second floor above the Colony of Virginia store.
Admission is free.
The performers will be Cat White, who operates Alley Cat Books and Gifts, and Sherry Vaughn, author of "Melvin's Melons," published by The Overmountain Press in Johnson City, Tenn., and illustrated by Ernie Ross of Pulaski.
White has been performing Appalachian folk tales, ballads and theater pieces since 1989, after studying theater at Radford University. He opened his own production company in 1993, becoming a full-time story-teller and averaging 55 shows per year.
Vaughn teaches sixth-grade at Dublin Middle School, and is also a story-teller. In fact, she recorded a cassette featuring the story as well as singing the songs from her book.
Vaughn's book will be available for sale and autographing. Her tape, as well as a cassette by White titled "Cat Tales," can also be purchased during the program and at the store.
