A head-on collision in Franklin County Sunday evening claimed the lives of both drivers.
The accident occurred about one mile south of Halesford Bridge on Virginia 122 about 6:15 p.m., said state police Trooper Wayne Stone.
"The vehicle traveling southbound had just come out of a curve, when the car's right wheels dropped off the blacktop," Stone said. "The car then came back on the road and crossed into the northbound lane, where it struck the car traveling northbound."
Both drivers were killed, and a passenger in each car was airlifted to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, Stone said.
The victims' names will not be released until the families can be notified.
The accident closed Virginia 122, and traffic had to be rerouted for about two hours, Stone said. |- JON CAWLEY
