Blacksburg's April Rogers put on the final touches for the West team by serving out the last three points in the Virginia High School Coaches' All-Star volleyball game Tuesday.
Rogers started with a lead, something that was rare for the West, which rallied in every game to beat the East 16-14, 17-15, 15-11.
``I was scared. I didn't want to serve,'' said Rogers kiddingly.
The West trailed 14-8 in the first game when Brookville's Meghann Morris served the last eight points for the victory.
Patrick Henry's All-Timesland duo of Becca Hogan and Allison Suggs, who led the Patriots to second in the Group AAA tournament, joined George Wythe's Christy Terry as West players in the second game. This time, the West wiped out a 14-9 deficit on the serves of Virginia High's Elizabeth Renfro, who also made the final kill.
The East, never giving up, roared to a 9-4 lead in the second game when the West rallied earlier than usual to set Rogers up for the winning serves. Gate City hitter Lindsay Carter (West) and Douglas Freeman hitter Kelly Flammia (East) were named most valuable players.|
