COLLEGE NOTES

JEFFREY M. SHEPARD, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph J. Shepard of Roanoke, has been inducted into Phi Alpha Theta, an international honor society in history. The society encourages the study of history through research, good teaching and the exchange of ideas. Shepard is a junior at Hampden-Sydney College.

ERRIN KORACE McGARY, daughter of Sylvia Long of Roanoke, recently graduated from the University of Virginia with a bachelor of arts degree in English. McGary is a 1992 graduate of Northside High School.

JEFFREY KELLY SHELTON, son of Mr. and Mrs. David M. Shelton Jr. of Roanoke, has been named to the dean's list at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond. Shelton is in the honors program and has been inducted into Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Society. He is a 1994 graduate of Cave Spring High School.

JEREMY SHIELDS, son of Robert and Cynthia Shields of Blue Ridge, has been named to the spring dean's list at The College of William and Mary. Shields is a 1993 graduate of Lord Botetourt High School.

He has received a grant to study Japanese culture in Osaka, Japan.

DAVID SAMUEL PERRIN of Roanoke has been named to the vice president's honor roll at Adams State College in Alamosa, Colo.

CHRISTINA M. PIORO, daughter of Michael and Pamela Pioro of Blue Ridge, has been awarded a Community Service Grant scholarship from Queens College in Charlotte, N.C. Pioro is a graduate of Lord Botetourt High School.

PAUL J. JOHNSON, son of Mr. and Mrs. Hugh E. Johnson of Vinton, graduated from Messiah College in Grantham, Pa., with a bachelor of arts degree in psychology. He is a 1992 graduate of Roanoke Valley Christian School.

STEPHANIE WEBB, a 1993 graduate of Roanoke Valley Christian School, made the dean's list at Bob Jones University. Webb, a physical education major, will be a senior in the fall.

DREAMA DENISE TOWE, daughter of Daniel and Elaine Mauspile Towe of Salem, received a bachelor of arts degree in foreign affairs from the University of Virginia. Towe is a 1992 graduate of Salem High School.

BLUEFIELD COLLEGE has named the following area students to its spring dean's list: Donna Fuqua of Roanoke, Larry Addair of Blue Ridge, Deanna Aldrich of Vinton, Alana Atkinson of Troutville, Aaron Curfiss of Salem, Susan Gross of Roanoke and William Lanier of Salem.

ELON COLLEGE recently named its spring semester graduates: Lori Marie Ungerer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard A. Ungerer of Roanoke, bachelor of arts in human services; Scott Patrick Sartini, son of Mr. and Mrs. Valentino J. Sartini of Roanoke, bachelor of science in leisure/sport management; and Katherine Leigh Carter, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James B. Carter of Roanoke, bachelor of arts in sociology.

ANDREW R. HOUGH of Roanoke graduated from Boston University with a law degree.

BRENDA J. DRINKWINE, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Monte J. Drinkwine of Roanoke, is the recipient of Roanoke College's Bittle Scholarship. Up to six Bittle Scholars are selected each year, based on academic records and performance during a scholarship competition. Recipients receive full tuition each year, providing they maintain a grade-point average of at least 3.25. Drinkwine is a graduate of Northside High School.

MARY WASHINGTON COLLEGE named three Roanoke students to its dean's list for the spring semester: Huyen Leigh Campbell, Ellen C. Harris and Mark S. Ratliff.

VALERIE GLYNN of Vinton has been named to the spring semester dean's list at Saint Francis College in Loretto, Pa.

DOUGLAS LOWELL of Roanoke has received a bachelor of arts degree from Miami (Ohio) University.

LIANA DENISE ROBINSON, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Michael L. Robinson of Roanoke, has been named to the dean's list for the spring semester at Hood College in Frederick, Md.

JASON FIELDS, the son of Joan Fields of Roanoke and Beau Fields of South Carolina, received a doctor of medicine degree from the James H. Quillen College of Medicine at East Tennessee State University.

Fields will begin a residency in pediatrics at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.
