KEVIN KAYS of Roanoke has been named Rookie of the Year at Peoples Security Insurance for the Shenandoah Region.

LEMUEL H. NEWSOME has been named to the Norandex 1996 Leadership Council. Newsome is manager of the Roanoke office of Norandex Inc., a division of Fibreboard Corp., which manufactures vinyl siding and sells other exterior building products. Newsome has been with the company for 13 years and has been on the Norandex Leadership Council the last five years by meeting sales and management goals.

CHARLENE S. McCADDEN, a registered nurse and infection control practitioner at the Salem VA Medical Center, has met the requirements for certification in infection control by the Certification Board of Infection Control.

MICHAEL F. HUGHES, formerly of Roanoke, has been promoted to assistant vice president at Signet Bank. He manages the Virginia Beach mortgage office and oversees loan origination and production in the Tidewater area. Hughes was a teacher and coach with the Roanoke school system and an assistant track coach at Virginia Tech before going into the financial services industry.

DR. DARRELL F. POWLEDGE of Lewis-Gale Clinic in Salem is among 52 physicians selected for the 1996 Class of Fellows by the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine, an international organization that promotes health and safety of people in the workplace and environment through preventive medicine, clinical practice, research and education.

DONNY JULIAN of Roanoke has been selected Route Salesperson for the fourth quarter by Shenandoah Valley Water Co. The award is based on excellent service, new accounts, driving safety and accuracy. Julian was also named 1992's Route Salesperson of the year by the International Bottled Water Association.

THE 1995 COMMISSIONER'S AWARD was given to major supporters of Virginia agriculture. The award recognizes any retailer, wholesaler, distributor, producer or processor that makes a significant contribution to Virginia agriculture. Kroger of Roanoke received the award for their strong and consistent support of Virginia agricultural producers and their participation in the Virginia's Finest trademark program.

KROGER OF ROANOKE has won the 1995 Commissioner's Award for its strong support of Virginia agricultural producers and its participation in the Virginia's Finest trademark program. The award recognizes retailers, wholesalers, distributors, producers or processors that make a significant contribution to Virginia agriculture.
