The value of building permits is down at the height of the building season in the Roanoke Valley, and few major construction projects are planned. Permits in June totaled $8.5 million, down 30.2 percent from $12.2 million a year earlier and 6.2 percent from $9.1 million in May.
Salem issued permits for $640,500 for an addition to the Noble-Met building and for $500,000 for a new office warehouse for Design Telecommunications. Roanoke received plans for 11 houses, mostly for repairs. Roanoke County' listed 46 single-family homes at a value of $2.58 million.
