A 34-year-old Roanoke man was shot in the mouth Monday at Westwood Apartments off Shenandoah Avenue after arguing with another man about money.
Paul Grantley Adams of Glengary Avenue Northwest was treated by a lifesaving crew and taken to a hospital that requested its identity not be revealed, police said.
After conferring with Adams' female companion, police gave this account:
While Adams was visiting a friend in an apartment, an unidentified man walked into the living room.
The man grabbed Adams after pacing back and forth, saying he wanted his money.
The two men argued and moved around the room before the man took point-blank aim at Adams' face with a handgun and again demanded his money.
The woman heard the gun fire and ran from the building, then heard two more shots.
When she returned a short time later, she found Adams bleeding from his face. Police did not know Adams' condition but said the injury was extensive.
More shots were fired when the man was driving away, according to police and neighbors, but the exact number of shots was unclear.
Police issued a bulletin for the suspect, describing him as a light-skinned black male of medium build, 5-foot-8, wearing a beige T-shirt and brown pants with a towel draped over his shoulders.
Police said they believed the suspect still was armed with a handgun and was driving a two-tone brown four-wheel drive sport/utility vehicle with tinted windows and 30-day tags.
