LIBRARY NEARS COMPLETION

Fifteen months after the first spades of dirt were turned, the library branch expansion in Blacksburg is set to reach "substantial completion" in a week, said Jo Brown, associate director.

That means the contractor, architects and engineers will go over the building one last time and look for finishing details before turning the final, renovated section of the modernized and expanded building over to the Montgomery-Floyd Regional Library system.

To move into the last section to be completed - the part facing Draper Road that used to have a leaking zig-zag roof - the branch library will close between Aug. 5 and 18.

That will give staff members time to move books and furniture and workmen time for the finishing touches.

The entire "new" library branch - with new quiet-study rooms, a large meeting room, more parking and handicapped accessibility - will reopen at 10:30 a.m. Aug. 19.
