A federal appeals court Wednesday upheld most of the convictions in the fraud and conspiracy trial of former United Way of America chief William L. Aramony, but vacated a portion of the case.
The 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals sent the case back to the U.S. District Court in Alexandria for resentencing of Aramony and one of his co-defendants.
Aramony is serving a seven-year sentence. He was accused of using the charity's money to pay for high living and luxury travel for himself and girlfriends.
Aramony and two top United Way associates were tried together and convicted in April 1995 of defrauding the national United Way organization.
