KINSTON TOPS SALEM AGAIN

David Miller smacked a two-run homer as the Kinston Indians downed the Salem Avalanche 7-4 in a Carolina League baseball game Wednesday night. The Avalanche has lost six consecutive games to Kinston.

The Indians (12-12) got on the board in the bottom of the second inning when Sean Casey hit a solo homer, his 12th of the year, off Avalanche starter Matt Pool. (Box score in Baseball Scoreboard.)

Salem scored two runs in the top of the third to take a 2-1 lead. John Giudice singled, moved to third on a single by Nate Holdren, and scored on a delayed double steal. Blake Barthol then doubled to knock in Holdren.

The Avalanche (10-14) gave up two runs in the bottom of the fourth when Miller hit his fifth homer off Pool. Kinston scored two more runs in the fifth to take a 5-2 lead.

Salem second baseman Elvis Pena singled in Pookie Jones with two outs in the sixth, but the Indians added two runs off reliever Jeff Sobkoviak in the bottom of the seventh to seal the win.

In today's contest, Salem's Luther Hackman (4-3, 4.08 ERA) will face Kinston's Terry Harvey (1-1, 5.27) in the Avalanche's final road game before a seven-day homestand.
