A Roanoke man was robbed early Thursday while walking to his car near downtown.
About 2:35 a.m., Roanoke police say, an unidentified man took $80 from Stephen Joseph Pierson, 22, of South Jefferson Street.
Police gave this account: Pierson was walking to his car when he saw a man standing in the 900 block of South Jefferson Street. As Pierson approached his vehicle, the man asked him for a ride. Pierson refused and was then asked for money. The man displayed a small handgun after Pierson told him his money was limited. The man then took $80 after he ordered Pierson to take out his wallet.
The suspect then fled north on Jefferson Street.
