DAMIANO, Cassie Mullins, 62, of Las Vegas, Nev., formerly of Narrows, passed away Wednesday, July 17, 1996. She was the daughter of the late Preston and Bertie Mullins of Narrows. Her survivors are two sons, Bobby and James Damiano, California; her stepmother, Lora Mullins, Narrows; sister, Shirley Burson, Las Vegas, Nev.; stepsister, Patrice Hare of Amelia; brothers, Bill Mullins, Abingdon , Burns, Roy, Mackie and Arnold Mullins, all of Narrows, Earl Mullins, Peterstown, W.Va.; stepbrothers, Andy and Bill Wimmer, Narrows; numerous loving nephew, nieces, cousins, and extended family. Graveside services will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. in the Sunrise Memorial Gardens in Rich Creek. DAVIS, Mattie Riggle Hilton, 92, of Wytheville, died Sunday, July 21, 1996. A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Mt. Ephraim Cemetery. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Barnett Funeral Home, Wytheville.

DODSON, Ruth Deer, 65, of Roanoke went to be with the Lord, Sunday, July 21, 1996. Surviving are daughters and sons-in-law, Beverly and Barry St. Clair, Troutville, Gloria and Fred Barnicoat, Roanoke, Brenda Keesee, Roanoke; three granddaughters, Christina and husband, Kevin Vaughn, April and Jami Barnicoat; two grandsons, John and Jake St. Clair; two great-grandsons, Corin and Dustin Vaughn; three sisters, Jesse D. Burnett, Jean Canter, Clara I ngram; two brothers, James and Theodore Deer; and a very special friend, Raymond Carter. DUNCAN, Robert Lee, 86, of Wytheville, died Monday, July 22, 1996 in the Wythe County Community Hospital. He was retired from Pendleton Construction Company. He was preceded in death by his wife, Laura Stoots Duncan and a daughter, Jewell ``Tooty"" Cassell. He is survived by his three daughters, Miss Jean Duncan of Dublin, Mrs. Hazel Ferguson of Southern Pines, N.C. and Mrs. Alma Massey of Burlington, N.C.; son, Mr. Bobby Duncan of Crockett; sister, Ethel Mabe of Max Meadows; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two stepgreat-grandchildren. Funeral services will be Wednesday, 2 p.m., in the Chapel of the Grubb Funeral Home, with interment to follow in the West End Cemetery. HAGA, Linda Faye Poland, 48, of 506 Parsonage Ave., Rural Retreat, died Saturday, July 20, 1996 in the N.C. Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem, N.C. She was born November 26, 1947 in Tennessee to Howard and Mossie Wood Poland. She is survived by her husband, John Wade Haga, Asbury Center at Birdmont in Wytheville; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Ike (Emma) Moser, North Wilkesboro, N.C., Mrs. Mike (Stella) Nichols, Independence, Va.; four stepgrandchildren; one stepgreat-grandchild; two sisters, Mrs. Jamie (Mary) Wingate, Wytheville, Mrs. Jack (Joann) Titter, Elkton, Md.; and two nieces; one nephew. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 24, 1996, from the Lindsey Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Hubert Meadows and the Rev. Benny Haga officiating. Interment will follow in the Mountain View Cemetery in Rural Retreat. HAILEY, Ruth E. Wade, 95, of Roanoke, died Sunday, July 21, 1996. She was retired from the V.A. Medical Center, Salem, with 36 years service and was a longtime member of Trinity United Methodist Church. The widow of Wirt H. Hailey, she is survived by two stepdaughters, Doris H. Meade, Clara H. Wagner, both of Richmond; a stepdaughter-in-law, Violet B. Hailey, Colonial Heights; a stepniece, Dorothy Locke, Keysville; two sisters-in-law, Bertha M. Wade, Naomi E. Wade, both of Richmond; 11 nieces and nephews including Benjamin T. Wade and his wife, Carole, Roanoke. Funeral service will be held at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel Wednesday, July 24, 10 a.m. with the Rev. David Tanner officiating. HAMILTON, Virginia Thomason, 68, of Roanoke died Monday, July 22, 1996. Mrs. Hamilton retired from C & P Telephone Company. She was preceded in death by a sister, Muriel Thomason Brady. She is survived by her husband, John T. HANNIFAN, Brian Thomas, 13, of Radford, passed away Saturday, July 20, 1996, in Radford Community Hospital. He was a student at Radford Intermediate School. Survivors include his father and mother, Tom and Alisa Hannifan of Radford; two brothers, Matthew Brett Hannifan and Samuel Drew Hannif an of Radford; his paternal grandfather, John T. Hannifan of Radford, and his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Ruth Crawford of Eddington, Maine. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 24, 1996, at First Baptist Church of Radford, with the Rev. Joe Burton and the Rev. Brent Taylor officiating. HATTAN, George Francis, 94, of Lexington, died Monday, July 22, 1996 at his residence. He was born September 20, 1901 in Rockbridge County, a son of the late Mark and Margaret Jane Hattan. Mr. Hattan was a farmer and a member of the New Monmouth Presbyterian Church and served his country during World War II. Graveside service 2 p.m Thursday , July 25, 1996 at New Monmouth Presbyterian Cemetery with the Rev. Nancy S. Whiteley officiating. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Harrison Funeral Home, Lexington.

HOLZHEUER, Howard E., 77, of 204 Forbes Street, Madison Heights, died Monday, July 22, 1996 in Virginia Baptist Hospital in Lynchburg. Born August 2, 1918 in Owasso, Michigan, he was the son of the late Hugo Holzheuer and the late Josephine Sullivan Holzheuer Wooldridge. He retired from Babcock & Wilcox and served with the United States Marine Air Warning Squadron 7 during World War II. He was past President of the Madison Heights Ruritan Club, served on the Zoning Board of Amherst County and volunteered with Habitat for Humanity and the Lynchburg Area Food Bank. He was a member of Madison Heights Christian Church, where he served on the Church Board. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Alice Carroll Holzheuer; three daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra and David Garland of Charlottesville, Linda and Rich Garbee of Salem and Jackie and H. A. (Skeeter) Wilkes of Madison Heights; three grandsons, Michael Garbee of Salem, Brent Garland of Williamsburg and Kevin Garbee of Virginia Beach; one sister, Ruth Spence of Lynchburg; one niece, Deloma Reed of Lynchburg; one nephew, Jordon Spence of Forest; and life-long friends, Toad and Tieny Padgett of Madison Heights and Lewis and Elizabeth Tuggle of Lynchburg. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Madison Heights Christian Church by the Rev. D. Jack Hamilton. Interment will be in Fort Hill Memorial Park. MATTHEWS, John Willis Sr., 76, of Glasgow, passed away at his home Sunday, July 21, 1996. He was born September 20, 1919, at Sydnorsville in Franklin County, the elder son of the late Thomas David Matthews Sr. and Maggie Woody Matthews. After attending V.P.I., Mr. Matthews was drafted into the U.S. Air Force, being discharged in December 1945. He worked for Norfolk and Southern Corp. for over 40 years and was a former member of the Glasgow Rescue Squad and the American Legion. He was a member of the Beth Horon United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ashley Maxine Martin Matthews in April 1983; a sister, Catherine Matthews; and a brother, T. D. Matthews. Surviving are a son, John W. Matthews Jr. and wife, Brenda, Staunton; two sisters, Geneva M. Carter, Roanoke, Mabel Allen, Woodstock; a sister-in-law, Betty I. Matthews; one niece; and two nephews; a very special friend, Edna Harris, Buena Vista. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 24, 1996, at the Harrison Funeral Chapel with Rev. MILLER, Aundrea Marie, (``Ree Ree''), 24, of Roanoke, passed away Wednesday, July 17, 1996. Survivors include her mother, Dorothy Ann Miller; and father, Weldon D. Alexander, both of Roanoke; one son, Deandre Miller of Roanoke; brothers, Francis X. Miller, Roanoke, and Samuel W. ROWE, Virgia Spicer, 86, of Narrows, died Saturday, July 20, 1996 in the Conway Community Hospital, Conway, S.C. A lifelong resident of Giles County, she was born at Narrows, on February 8, 1910 and was the daughter of the late, Harvey (Bud) and Rose Martin Spicer. She was preceded in death by her husband, Randolph S. Rowe, and a son, Ralph Lucas, three brothers, Jim Spicer, Cover Spicer, and Guy Spicer, and a daughter, Rachael S. Hufford. She is survived by a son, William Lucas, Witchita, KS; daughters, Alma Jean Mintz, Little River, S.C., and Sylvia Baldwin, Chesapeake; brother, Claude Spicer, Narrows; sisters, Mabel Blankenship, Narrows, Bernice Brandon, Fairmont, W.Va., Nora Batteiger, Castle Rock, Co.; 16 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren. SHUPE, Edna Irene Phillippi, 87, of Roanoke, died Sunday, July 21, 1996. She was a widow of Marlin Clay Shupe and is survived by her daughter, Martha S. Blessing. SHUPE, Ellen Russell, (``Ella""), 57, of Roanoke, died Sunday, July 21, 1996. She had retired from Roanoke City School Board from cafeteria work. She is survived by her husband, Jimmy R. Shupe; sons, William Keith Shupe and Lee Widner; brothers, William T. Russell, Jesse S. Russell and Johnny Lee Russell; sisters, Virginia R. Romans, Mary L. Clark, Mabel Young, Tincie Louise Lloyd and Peggy A. Sheffield and grandchildren including special grandson, Keith Douglas Shupe and several nieces and n ephews. STRICKLER, Wallace Teal, 79, of Hernado, Fla., formerly of Roanoke, died Friday, July 19, 1996, at the Veteran Hospital, Gainsvi lle, Fla. He was a member of the Plumber and Steam Fitters Union, Local #491. He is preceded in death by a son, Thomas T. Strickler. He is survived by his wife, Josephine Strickler; two daughters, Betty Jo Naber, Homasassa, Fla., and Richie Williams, Martinez, Ga.; two sons, Sidney Strickler, Mount Holly, N.C., Larry Strickler, Hernado, Fla.; two brothers, Wayne Stickler, Rocky Mount, Roff D. Strickler, Anchorage, Alaska; two sisters, Myrle Metts, Irene Bennett, both of Rocky Mount; eight grandchildren. Funeral services will be in Pleasant Hill Methodist Church, Rocky Mount, Va. WANNER, Irma A., 92, of Blacksburg, and formerly of Nutley, N.J., passed away Saturday, July 13, 1996, at Radford Community Hospital. Mrs. Wanner became a resident of Showalter Warm Hearth Village in March 1994, and then a resident of Skyline Manor Nursing Home in May 1996. Mrs. Wanner was preceded in death by her husband, Walter O. Wanner; and brother, Edwin Allmann. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Walter W. and Terry Wanner, Blacksburg; daughter and son-in- law, Dale and Joseph Cocchiola, Nutley, N.J.; sister, Elsie Hartkopf, Point Pleasant, N.J.; seven grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren. Funeral and entombment services were conducted Friday, July 19, 1996, at Hollywood Mausoleum, Union, N.J.
