Former Roanoke Mayor Noel C. Taylor - whose dream it has been to see the blighted Henry Street area come back to life - resigned Tuesday as chairman of the Henry Street Revival Committee. He cited medical reasons.
"It is [with] something akin to reluctance that I submit my resignation as a member of the [committee]," City Clerk Mary Parker said, reading from a letter that Taylor had handed to her.
"So much has happened in the city to make me want to be close to the developing situation. I want you to know how greatly I appreciate the support and cooperation which have been given to me during my tenure as chairman."
City Attorney Wilburn Dibling, a committee member, lauded Taylor for his vision.
"You've given considerable blood, sweat and tears to this project," Dibling said. "I know your labors will bear fruit."
And at the Henry Street ribbon-cutting ceremony, whenever that will be, "you'll be there with a pair of golden scissors in your hand." |- LESLIE TAYLOR
