A former Miss Virginia who works as a high school choral director was indicted on felony charges of embezzling $1,266 from a band boosters club.
Two of the three charges against Vicky Pulliam Robertson involve money the Martinsville High School Band Boosters gave her for an out-of-town musical she attended with choral members in May1995, the indictment said.
Robertson, 36, received $400 for a deposit on the trip and $314 for bus parking and equipment rental, according to the indictment issued Monday by a city grand jury.
No deposit was made, no instruments were rented, and there was no separate fee for bus parking, said Martinsville Commonwealth's Attorney Randolph Smith.
The third embezzlement charge stems from a 1995 incident in which the band boosters gave Robertson money to purchase dresses for the choir members.
According to an affidavit for a search warrant for her bank records, Robertson paid $1,633.61 for the dresses and was reimbursed $2,185.85 after saying she had paid that amount.
Band boosters members started looking into the group's finances after some members became upset with the amount of money being spent, Smith said.
