FOR THE RECORD

A headline in Wednesday's paper on a story involving Amway Corp. was incorrect. Amway is a network distribution business and does not sell its products door to door.

Acorn Construction Ltd., the contractor for the renovation of the Fort Lewis Elementary School in Roanoke County, is based in Troutville in Botetourt County. A story in Wednesday's edition of the paper gave an incorrect location for the company's offices.

Clarification

A civil rights activist who was sued by a former Franklin County teacher says a written statement included with the suit's dismissal was incorrectly characterized as an "apology" in a story Wednesday.

Linda Edwards-White says the statement was not an apology but an attempt to bring "closure" to the lawsuit.

She and former teacher Nadine Keen were sued after they publicized comments about interracial dating that Lari Scruggs allegedly made to two white students.

The three-paragraph statement says Edwards-White and Keen never "intended to harm Mrs. Scruggs, but rather they intended to call attention to the failure of the Franklin County School Board to appropriately address certain race-related issues" at the high school.
