College begins fall registration

Roanoke College will offer evening credit program courses in the fall term beginning Aug. 27.

Course subjects include business, art, chemistry, economics, education, music, physical education, religion, Russian and general education.

Tuition is $800 per course-unit. Roanoke College graduates may enroll in any course for one-half the regular fee, and persons 60 years of age and older pay one-fourth the regular fee.

Former Roanoke College students may call the registrar's office at 375-2210 for information. New students may call the admissions office at 375-2270.

Tournament benefits cancer center, library

Pine Valley Golf Association will hold the sixth annual Shirley P. Berger Memorial Golf Tournament Friday and Saturday at Countryside and Hanging Rock golf courses in Roanoke.

Proceeds from the tournament benefit the Southwest Virginia Cancer Center and Lee M. Waid School Library in Rocky Mount.

Salem YMCA opens nursery for exercisers

The Salem Family YMCA will open a nursery for the children of its members July 29. YMCA members will be able to leave their children in the nursery for up to two hours while they work out.

The hours of operation for the nursery are Monday and Wednesday, 4:30-8:30 p.m.; Tuesday and Thursday, 8:30-11:00 a.m.; and Friday, 4-7 p.m.

Fall Classic tourney seeks players

The fifth annual Fall Classic Golf Tournament will be held at the Hanging Rock Golf Club in Salem on Sept. 13. The entry fee is $55 per player or $200 per team.

Prizes include a Saturn SLI car and a round-trip ticket for two to anywhere in the continental United States or the Caribbean. The tournament benefits scholarship and education programs, capital improvement and chamber work within the community.
