ROBERT WESTON HERCHENRIDER, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert S. Herchenrider of Roanoke, has recently been awarded the Marshall Hahn Engineering Scholarship and the James Powell Valedictorian Scholarship at Virginia Tech. He has also received a scholarship from the Roanoke Valley chapter of the Virginia Tech Alumni Association. Robert is a 1996 graduate of Cave Spring High School.
CHARLES RAY SPRINKLE JR. of Roanoke recently received a master of fine arts degree in theater from Southern Methodist University in Dallas.
HOLLINS COLLEGE has announced the names of the following Roanoke-area graduates.
Receiving bachelor of arts degrees are: Ruby Newman-Horn of Vinton; Shanda Blosser of Blue Ridge; Kelly Robinson of Salem; and Holly Bavol, Melodie Coronado, Sarah Bennett and Krista Thomas of Roanoke.
Receiving master of arts degrees are: Pamela Ferris Stump of Fincastle; Polly Branch of Roanoke; W. Michael Hunt and Sheila Ricker Harrison, both of Salem.
MARK W. SINK, son of Tommy and Rosemary Sink of Roanoke, has received a master of science degree in management from Georgia Tech. He will be employed by Intel Corp. in San Jose, Calif.
BRIAN GRIFFIN LAWHORN, son of Mr. and Mrs. Tommy G. Lawhorn of Roanoke, has been named to the University of Richmond's dean's list.
CHARLES J. BEIRNE, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Beirne of Roanoke, has been awarded an Army ROTC two-year on-campus scholarship at the Virginia Military Institute.
Beirne is a 1994 graduate of William Byrd High School.
MOLLY G. WRIGHT of Roanoke has been named to the spring semester honor list at Michigan State University in East Lansing.
DONNA MICHELLE COOPER of Roanoke received a master of science in counseling from Shippensburg University in Pennsylvania.
SUSAN EMILY HORD of Roanoke has been named to the spring semester dean's list at Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas.
SYDNEY BOWLING SOWERS, daughter of William E. and Frances S. Bowling of Roanoke, has been awarded the College of Humanities and Sciences Distinguished Service Award at Virginia Commonwealth University. The award recognizes scholastic performance, leadership and an outstanding record of service to the school.
Sowers also was awarded the Graduate Student Poetry Award for 1996.
She received a master of fine arts degree from VCU in May.
MARK SHERBURNE, son of Mary Lou and John Novak of Roanoke, has received the Three-Dimensional Art prize from the Society of Alumni of the College of William and Mary.
EMILY K. RAKES, daughter of Kathy Speese-Rakes and Jeff Rakes of Roanoke, has been named to the spring semester dean's list at the University of North Carolina in Wilmington.
Rakes is a 1994 graduate of Cave Spring High School.
