AVALANCHE DATE A WASH, RESCHEDULED

The final game of the Salem Avalanche homestand was washed out Thursday night when steady rain and the forecast of more showers forced the postponement of Salem's game against the Frederick Keys.

The teams will make up the game as part of a doubleheader next weekend when the Avalanche visits Frederick, Md., for a series.

Salem begins a seven-day trip today when it travels to Delaware to play the first of a three-game set against the Wilmington Blue Rocks. Mike Vavrek (8-4, 5.00 ERA), Thursday's scheduled starter for Salem, will pitch against Dustin Brixey (6-3, 3.65).

After Salem plays four games at Frederick, it returns home Aug.2 for a three-game series against the Kinston Indians that kicks off a seven-day homestand.
