SALEM WOMAN DIES OF HEART ATTACK AT OLYMPICS

A teacher at Roanoke's Downtown Learning Center suffered a fatal heart attack Friday while waiting to get into Atlanta's Olympic Stadium to watch the first day of track and field events.

Vicki White, 44, of Salem died at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta shortly after an ambulance brought her from the stadium, said hospital spokeswoman Faith Carmichael.

White's brother, Mark White, complained that the ambulance took up to 15 minutes to get to his fallen sister. But Carmichael said 911 records showed the call was received at 7:56 a.m. and the ambulance was on the scene at 8 a.m.

``From our side, everything went perfectly according to standards,'' she said.

Dennis McGowan, chief investigator for the Fulton County medical examiner's office, said White's death could not have been caused by the weather - the temperature was in the 70s at the time - or by the three-quarter-mile walk she took from a commuter train to the stadium.
